Well, I have met another Z/28 owner who has a rare beast. He asked me if I would help him gather the numbers from the car and see what all is original. He has owned the car since 1974 and just recently decided to do a restoration on it. I will post the data and the pictures as well. He has the original paperwork so no question the car is legit. But, even though the car was 6 years old when he bought it a few pieces are missing. It appears to have the entire "born with" drivetrain. It is a special order -- paint code and it is black exterior with 714 deluxe black interior. He wanted to know if anybody recognizes the rear end cover and also was interested in knowing if the shocks appear to be original. He thinks the exhaust is even original. The car is a 6A build date. Here are the codes:

Todd, the shocks aren't original and the axle cover is an aluminum aftermarket unit sold by several companies in the 60's and 70's like Cal Custom, ET, Moroso, etc... Even JC Whitney sold them for awhile!

Can you send me all the information on the car (pics of the VIN, Trim Tag, the owners name, etc...) so I can add the car to the database? You can just email me the information if you don't want to post it here. Copies of the paperwork he has would also be MUCH appreciated.

Thanks
Ed

I don't have any more of the exterior, sorry. We will be pulling the 302 this weekend and inspecting it. He did say it had a Crane hydraulic cam in it now. :boring: And the heads are not a match (casting number) from side to side... Plus they have screw in studs which is not correct. I will try to take more pictures when we are working on it. A few parts that I have noticed not original. The distributor appears to be a cast iron one. The intake and carb are wrong. The wheels are 15x7 FW code. It still has bias ply tires and has not been registered since 1980. It is also optioned strange it has power steering but radio delete!

I have already tried and he is not going to do it. It is HIS car so he can do as he pleases. In fact, he plans to add aftermarket A/C and make it a driver. I admire that he is going to get it out and use it rather than trailer it from show to show...:D

Can you tell me more about the "1968 Chevrolet Car Selector" dealer book sitting on the passenger seat?

I have not looked at that yet. When I go back over there I will check it out. He also has an original metal license plate that says USA 1 I think. He said it was an original 1968 plate because it is green on the back. Is this a rare piece?

In fact, he plans to add aftermarket A/C and make it a driver..:D

I hope that can be done without any permanent changes or without destroying something like cutting sheet metal etc., other wise it would be best to do to some other car. He might regret it when he realizes the most value from a car that is if it could be brought back to original if need be.

Radio delete was not an option, ordering a radio was.

It is his car and he has no intentions of selling it. Might as well enjoy it. He plans to give it to his son when he dies. Even if you drill a few holes in the firewall to pass some hoses through, that can be welded up. I have seen some amazingly expensive metal replacement on just plain jane Camaros.

I know, it's just that I did some things to my car before I realized the implications of it and now regret it. I just hope he doesn't have to go through that someday.

Really nice car and I hope the owner continues to enjoy it....till he dies, I feel the same way but only have girls who want automatic with A/C to leave it to. Does anyone know for sure if the radio blocking plate goes behind the wood grain shroud or on the front of it? Mine was behind when I bought it but I thought it looked wrong so I moved it to the front. This one seems to be behind the wood grain shroud?

Yes, it did look like it was behind the plate. I will verify this again this weekend when I go back over there. We should be getting the engine out on Sunday.
