It happened last saturday -

After changing back to an old blueprint Accel HEI vacuum advance distributor but with the vaccum canister plugged - gives me 20* advance and I am satisfied

(my racing HEI sticks when advancing - only figured it out a few weeks ago and cost me a few grudges )

650 DP with 74/73 jets - 150hp NOS with independent but tricky holley blue pump & regulator - I need 10lbs pressure at the regulator to nos plate to keep the safety pressure switch happy - we had preset the switch at 4lbs cutout

timing with MSD timing tape - puts the timing at 10* before 0 and up to 10* after 0* at 3000 rpm

26 X 8.5 x 15 slicks on weld wheels (a loaner)

First run

.700 r/t
1.760 60
5.203 330
85.07 mid mph
8.113 660
10.498 990
12.648 ET
107.91 mph

Second run

.906 r/t
1.678 60
4.821 330
90.73 mid mph
7.502 660
9.779 990
11.872 ET
110.29 mph

The first run was affected by the safety switch -I had the pressure set at 8lbs - but it cut out the Nitro just after 1st gear (I really have to get that pump & regulator rechecked) so I kept my finger on the button (just fed up) and it came back on dramatically in 3rd gear

on the second run I increased the pressure to 10lbs and it worked

On both runs I went through the traps at 7000 and 7200 rpm respectively

It would be great to hear your thoughts on the runs

Please note a tyre change from my previous 28 x 10.5 x 15

Great Run! Do you have excessive converter slippage? The trap RPM seems very high for the MPH.

Blue 68 thats a very interesting query

I myself was very surprised at the rpm - the first run I had a 7K pill in the MSD and I was on pins and needles through the traps wanting to let off the nitrous button than risk the limiter coming in -

Thats why I went with a 8K pill in the 11 sec. run

To the point though, I do have a non lockup converter and a lockup tranny

When I inquired about a special valve kit to convert the tranny to non-lockup, I was told by TCI tech that all I needed to do was to turn a spring on a pressure valve in the pump the other way around and that would modify the pump for non lockup converter

That was 3 years ago and it is working up to now

Do you think I could have a converter problem with the rpm's the way they are through the traps??

Great run, have you ever had any problems mixing Hyper. pistons with NOS? I'm using the same pistons but heard that NOS would destroy them.

Honestly, I don't think I am qualfied to speak to that issue with only 6 passes on the bottle

However I have gone in those 6 passes from 100hp to 125hp to 150hp shot and the engine is still kicking

I have the timing pretty much in retard all the time

Best I can say is to do it safely - timing good fuel supply and a fuel pressure safety switch just in case and I think it will be safe up to 150hp shot - 125hp is preset for a stock cast piston engine

It shouldn't do much worse to the hypers!

wondering if a 670cfm street avenger or "slightly bigger" carb might help?

Do you think I could have a converter problem with the rpm's the way they are through the traps?? With a 26" tall tire and 4.10 gears and no slippage you should be running just over 130 mph at 7000 rpm. My guess is that the convertor has excessive slippage. If you get a good convertor in there your e.t.'s are really going to drop!

Congrats on the runs, but there's a lot more in there!

can anyone point me to a thread or expand on what is converter slippage - and if its a sign that the converter is bad internally or some other mechanical equation between tranny and converter thats faulty??

and if my hybrid non-lockup converter and modified lockup tranny can cause slippage more easily than others??

Thanks
