I think they had the intake gasket stuff sorted out by 2008 and were using the metal core gaskets. Try the easy stuff first. Cap and rotor, AC Delco if you can find it or Borg Warner is also good. Pull the cap and see if it has white chalky indications of arcing or a kinda chalky white build up on the inside of the spark plug wire posts. I had an Accel rotor blow out with less than 1000 miles on it and no CEL. Just immediate silence and on the side of the road I went. Was it real wet outside? Those distributors have a screened vent or two in them to allow condensation to evaporate and start wrecking havoc of they get clogged. Mine would start skipping on mornings after a rain but never throw a code.

Fred,
Depending on the exact problem it may be covered under the Emmissions warranty ? I would call the selling dealer and tell them nicely what is happening and ask them what they think. Talk to the service manager if yoou can. They do have some leeway with warranty work even after the warranty period is "officially" over.

They have had some issues with valves sticking due to valve guides being too tight. I see you are in DC, if you need a recommendation for a good shop, I know several in the area, but I would call the dealer first and see what they say. Who did you buy it from ?

The 2008 4.3L doesnt have a distributor. Go with plugs and wires first. Stick with AC Delco even though it cost more its good stuff for the most part. After doing that let me know what happens next. Ive seen this situation many times working at the dealer. Some were a clogged injector, some a plug and or wire.. Very rarely it was the coil pack.

Unless I am waaaay wrong, all of that should be covered under the emmissions warranty.

Being an 08 if im not mistaken thats when the 5 year 100k mile warranty started? I notice you mention 3/36 but if you fight that enough some dealers will bend the rules. Might want to look in to that because why pay for something you already paid for :-D
