Guys, I need advice on what to do about some parts I payed for that were on backorder. I ordered and payed for a 68 complete inner cowl panel in January and still have not received it. I used gift certificates and my credit card to leave the backorder deposit, which was the whole amount of the parts, with the company. I called and checked on the part last month and was told that sheetmetal parts were taking a long time to receive and left it at that as I have waited a long time before for parts from this company. I have been trying to call this company for the past week and get a recorded message that they are closed and to call back during business hours. I am calling during business hours so I have a feeling something is up with this company as they take a lot of orders over the phone. Their website is still running but they do not have email contact only phone, fax, and their address.

I have been trying to restore this car for a long time as it was my first car when I bought it at 16 years old in 1994, but life keeps throwing suprises at me. I got married, bought a house with a garage and had just got to the point where I felt financially able to start the restoration and was getting ready to buy an air compressor in March to start the restoration when I was laid off the day before I was to go buy the air compressor. This is my third lay off since graduating college in 2000. So right now the camaro sits on the back burner again untill I can find a job and build up some savings again. We are living off of our savings right now as unemployment is dragging their feet in getting me paid but that is a topic for another disscussion. This seems to be the natural progression of my life I start to get ahead and then BAM I am starting over from the bottom again.

I would immediately call your credit card company and see if they will reverse the deposit for you.

Name the company here and maybe someone in that town can drop over and verify if its open or not or maybe find a sign on a door with other numbers etc. You've not bashed the vendor, just stated what happened to you, so feel free to name them and lets see if anyone can confirm their status.

OK I will name the company since a moderator asked. I have been happy with this company in the past and do not have a reason to bash them. I just can not get ahold of them at all and am worried that I am out of luck. Paddock Parts out of Knightstown, Indiana. They are a fairly large supplier with a call center and handled parts for many manufacturers so it is not like it is just someone ignoring my calls. I have always drove to the showroom since it is less than an hour away and I could save shipping by ordering at the store. Being unemployed though, I am hesitant to waste the gas to drive by and see if they are out of business as I need to save everywhere I can right now. Their website is still up and running and I assume orders can still be placed online but do not know for sure since I have never purchased through the website. So I would suggest if someone was thinking of placing an order through them to try and call it in instead of the website in case they are out of business.

Thanks everyone for your help. The only option I see is to file a dispute with the credit card company and try and get part of my money back. Unfortunately part of it was paid with gift cards I had received for christmas and birthday, and I don't see any way of getting that part back since I can not get in touch with anyone at the business. I would much rather have the part than my money but I see no way of getting it if it was truely backordered.

I went through a similar deal with a company last year. Contact the BBB in that area. They will do most if not all the ground work on checking and dealing with the owners. Next contact your CC company or institution that supplied it to fight the charges and give them the complaint # that the BBB gave you. In doing this, I recieved all my money back.

Still have the gift cards?
You need the numbers on them, visa/MC can refund them as well as your Credit card if any were actually charged.
I NEVER charge a customers card until I'm actually filling and shipping the order. That is why I am an honest businessman instead of a rich one.

No, they were gift certificates not a card. They were bought through the company and were nothing more than a piece of paper printed from the computer with with a value wrote on them. They were surrendered at the time of the order.

I have contacted the BBB and they have not responded yet. I am currently filing with my credit card, but the form they maied me has a statement that you have to respond within 60 days after receiving the statement with the charge so I may be totally out of luck.

Muscle Car Parts Mainstay The Paddock Facing Auction Block
Warehouse and Showroom Items to be Auctioned at Company’s Knightstown, IN facility on July 29. Sealed Bids Being Accepted for Company’s Intellectual Property.

Avon, IN (PRWEB) May 22, 2010 — The down economy has claimed another victim—The Paddock, a mainstay in the muscle car parts business for over 40 years. Indianapolis-based Key Auctioneers (www.KeyAuctioneers.com) announced today that it will auction the company’s parts inventory, showroom items, collectibles, vehicles, and equipment at the company’s 60,000-square-foot Knightstown facility.

The Paddocks Knightstown headquarters. The July 29 auction is expected to draw thousands of muscle car enthusiasts from the Midwest and beyond.

The Paddock has been a leading supplier of muscle car parts for several decades. Its thirteen parts lines represent some of America’s most popular muscle cars, including Mustang, Corvette, GTO, and Camaro.

Company founder Jim O’Neil started The Paddock in 1965, restoring muscle cars in a small shop in Knightstown. By 1979, the company was manufacturing Mustang steel patch panels. The company’s first Mustang catalog was printed soon thereafter and the company started to grow by word of mouth. In 1980, the first Camaro catalog was printed. In 1998, Wes Watts, a former parts manager for the local Chevrolet dealership, purchased the company from O’Neil.

Over the years the company added Firebird, GTO, Chevelle, Nova, Cutlass, Impala and other catalogs to its muscle car line. In 2001, Watts built a state-of-the art 60,000-square-foot facility to accommodate his growing business.

According the Watts, the economic downturn of the last three years, along with the credit crisis, contributed to the company’s demise.

Key Auctioneers Senior Vice President Tim Boeglin said the company’s intellectual property was garnering a high degree of interest. Included in the intellectual property are the company’s name and trademarks, million-name customer list, websites, catalogs, and phone numbers.

About Key Auctioneers

 they sure did - right there in 'San - Berdo' :D
They were often a pain to work with as everything 'was out of stock & had to be shipped from our warehouse' was the standard answer if I stopped in with a list.

Still sorry to see any business fail - but these are trying times :o

I went through the same problem with them this year with my restoration. They kept telling me my parts ( hood, fenders, and doors) were National backorder.
After three months I called Classic Industries to find out the parts were never ordered. I drove over, laptop in hand to show the email to them, and required a refund.
Your problem is that a gift certificate has no real value if the company closes or is bankrupt. I am sorry this puts a dent in your project. You may contact the Auction company for a good contact number.

My God - was that article written/edited by a 4th grader

And where the heck is "Knightsville, Indian"

GMCI was a major supplier and creditor to Paddock, so it doesn't surprize me they bought the debris from the 'bank' to sift through it ... some is better than none, maybe ;)
Looks like no other creditor will recover much if any of what was owed.

That is all screwed up the city should be Knightstown, IN and it is about 30 or 40 miles east of Indianapolis IN south of interstate 70.

X2 on that one - actually, my 3rd grader knows the difference between "there" and "their". I am constantly appalled by the lack of basic grammar displayed by supposed "professionals", especially on the web. We hired a firm to write some Google AdWords copy for us a couple of years ago, and it ended up looking like it was written in an eastern European third world country. We ended up having to go back and rewrite everything ourselves. And these were local, AMERICAN, professionals.

This is my favorite part, "However, before the gravel fell for the first lot of goods, Key Auctioneers and Main Source banks had agreed to sell off a large quantity of Chrysler Mopar and Ford Mustang parts." I sure don't want to get hit in the head by rocks at the next auction I go to. ;)

Sorry to pull this off topic. Rant over.
