well for one thing, you can't use an electric water pump on the street. Second while the heads are apart have a slight port job, i'd go with a solid flat tappet UltraDyne cam, other than that sounds just right

Sounds like a very strong midrange combo, but it also sounds to me like detonation waiting to happen. That cam is a good size for a 396 (226@.050 I believe), but you'll have to stay on top of the tune and probably still have to throw some octane booster in there. With the gearing I think you could get away with a touch more cam duration to bleed off some cylinder pressure to keep it out of detonation.

Sounds close to what I started with on my 69 Timberwolf. I could not get the car to hook with the 4 speed but found out later what the problem was. My car had the comp 284 and edlebrock heads, rpm intake, 750 dominator car went 11.97 @ 118 slow shifts and spinning is all that keep it from running at least 11.50. I switched to an automatic to take care of shifts and make it so I could bracket race on weekends. Car was easier to tune after I put the automatic in it.

Good luck graemlins/waving.gif
