A friend of mine paid a muffler shop to put his exhaust on. He paid 180 for two flomaster mufflers, and them putting them on with turn downs. He is running long tube headers, with about 1 foot of pipe off the collector, through the muffler with the turn downs right after the muffler. The problem is, the turn downs the guy put on are either 2in, or 1 7/8. The rest of the pipe including the muffler diameter is either 2 1/2, or 2 1/4. I am not sure because I am judging by looking. Either way the turns are noticibly smaller than the exit diameter of the mufflers.
I think this would hurt the flow of the exhaust. When he went back up there the next day the gut told him that he would fix it, but it would cause the whole car to echo, and vibrate. Also he told him that it would take away/ or cause the mufflers to not make the flowmaster sound. I think the guy got caught screwing up, and is making excuses hoping he won't get it changed. What do ya'll think. Do you think it would hurt the flow? Should he have them changed, or leave them smaller?

That constriction for such a short distance isn't going to impact him much if any. I would still ask to get them fixed purely for visual ascetics. Small looking turndowns would look kind funny.
Here is my old exhaust with dual flowmasters and 2 1/2" turndowns. Plenty of Flowmaster (NOISEMASTER) sound coming out of this setup, I am since switched to nice Dynomax Super Turbos and Flowmaster 2.5" Mandrel bent piping to exit out the back.
