I have top dead center when the intake and exhaust valve are closed and the #1 piston is up.If I turn the engine 360 degrees what do i have then?I am trying to find out top dead center ,by looking at my valve train.
thanks

you will have tdc exhaust, which is when the intake valve is closed and exhaust open(you can tell this by wiggling the rocker arm, if it is tight the valve is open, if it is loose it is closed). If you want to install a distributor you want TDC on compresion, which is when #1 is at tdc and both of the #1 cylinders valves are closed(which means the rockers will wiggle, like there loose,no spring tension) hey goodluck

360 degrees after #1 TDC is #6 TDC.

The four stroke combustion engine

1. Intake (Intake valve opens, piston at bottom)
2. Combustion ( both valves closed, Piston at top, Ignition)
3. Powerstroke (Both valves still closed, piston under hells fire)
4. Exhaust ( exhaust valve opens, piston comes up forcing exhaust gases out).

Then we do it all again ! ! !

I think #2 should be compression as combustion and power are the same.

I am about to install a balancer on a new motor, what it the easiest way to get TDC for lining up the pointer. I have heard they sell something like a dowel rod that screws into #1 spark plug hole. You turn the motor until you touch it(making sure you are at the beginning of the intake stroke), remove it and turn the motor past it, put it back in and turn the motor backwards until you touch it again. Split the differance and that is top dead center. Does anyone know where I can get on of these rods or know a better way. Thanks.
