Sounds really good...I paid $1200+ for mine, and it was a cast steel crank, with SIR I-beams rods....so sounds like a good deal...

I paid $900 for my cast Eagle kit (new cast Eagle crank, SIR rods, KB pistons, Cl 77 bearings, Hastings rings, flexplate, dampener - unbalanced) 2 years ago. Then I had it balanced locally.

Price sounds OK to me, but I'd double check and find out exactly what internal balance means. Does it mean "ready for internal balancing", or "a claimer engine balance" or "full balance". Just ask him about how many grams the crank will be balanced to, and the rods, etc.

here's another place to look that usually has good prices www.dirttrackthunder.com (http://www.dirttrackthunder.com)

Thats who quoted me the price (dirttrackthunder). What type of balancing do he perform. Do you think this assembly is a Overkill for a street hot rod...

Straight from the website-this pertains to a 383 assembly but its prolly the same for yours:

The entire assembly is Professionally race balanced. Pistons w/rings, Rods, and Crankshaft. NOT A CHEAP CLAIMER BALANCE.

Overkill for a street Rod? Is there such a thing?! Eventually you will get tired with whatever times your running and you'll want more, nitrous, better heads, bigger cam....it goes on and on...yes its an addiction

Its just easier to make it faster when you don't have to worry about the bottem end.

WHats a cheap CLAIMER balance? They only balance half the assembly or something??

That's the problem . . . noone seems to know exactly what a "claimer balance" is --- kind of like a 3/4 race cam. LOL I personally think its like having your tires balanced by a guy that uses an old tire machine, a 2 x 4, and some chalk instead of a computerized wheel balancer. I think its the same with a Claimer balance job, just in the "ball park."

Maybe someone else knows exactly what a "claimer balance" is. LOL

ps. Yeah, all the forged stuff is probably overkill, but if you are going overkill on the bottom end your money is well spent IMO. Just don't cheap out on the valvetrain or you'll wind up destroying that sweet low end when you drop a valve. http://www.camaros.net/forum/rolleyes.gif

I think a claimer balance means they claim to balance it, and then have you sign a dis-claimer that if something scatters, they won't be held liable.
