What's the story on this 68 "Z"? Has anyone looked at this car?

I don't know who Bob Harris is but it sounds like there are no documents for the car. With no matching numbers I would not concider this car to be an original Z28 car. Unless you can prove what it is you are out of luck. Perhaps Jerry McNeish can help? Strange for such an original car that it has a black grill? Interior looks pretty rough. I think the car is over priced. Perhaps more pictures would help?

If you look in the credits of Jerry's book you'll see that Bob Harris is one of the people mentioned. Bob is the owner of Camaro Specialties in East Aurora,NY. and I believe a national judge. I purchased my Z28 from him a few years back and got a letter of certification with it from Bob. As to the car, I don't know it but you can be sure it's real. I have also bought a lot of parts from Camaro Specialties new and used, their knowiedge is second to none.

Thanks Steve that is good infomation to have. Either way I guess the question is, is the car worth what he asking?

Hey 78MBA were you asking what the car is worth or just if anyone knew anything about it?

Both! It's been for sale for a while so I didn't know if there was a reason other than price. What does everyone think a fair offer is?

Depending on the shape of the body not more than 20K if it is missing all of it's original parts. Also curious how much the Bob Harris documents would add to the car. My advice would be to have Jerry McNeish check it out, or at least call him if he is tight with Bob Harris. Also find out how much the car would be worth restored with all the right parts. I don't think the car would be worth more than it would cost to restore IMO.

It has been for sale for quite some time, I've seen it listed before. Bob's been around some time and I don't think there's any advantage to getting Jerry's opinion if Harris says it's legit and is willing to talk to potential buyers.

I wonder if they'd sell it rolling? Who wants a first gen Z with a BBC in it? Too bad the hood had pins in it at one time and it looks like someone added the old keyed alarm system by drilling a hole in the fender for the mercury switch just above the marker light. From the pics it would be a nice project.

There's a similar one sitting in Litchfield IL for about 5K lessif you're looking for one. Not sure where I saw the ad. Litchfield is kind of in the middle of nowhere.

I agree with SY1. Either way you are looking at at least 20K to get her back in order. Not sure how far you want to take it? hard to tell by the pictures how rough it is. Might be a great project if you get it for a good price. At the very least get a correct 302, trans and interior and you are in business. 20K or more is a lot to pay for a car if you are planning on doing a full spinner resto! Especially given it is missing the original drive train.

Personally I do not agree with this statement. bottom line is who knows what has happened to this car since Bob looked at it .. and even if he looked at it yesterday people make mistakes and if you have spent enough time on this board you have seen a few threads to confirm that.

Bottom line is no matter who verified the car you should get the proper photos and post them here with a copy of the write up of the car. Let the many people right here on TC who know these cars help you

PS- Who is Gerry MacNeish ? Is that Jerry's twin sister ?

"Certified by Bob Harris"
"Bob states in the appraisal that he is positively certain that this is a real Z28!"
"Bob also told me that he has known this car for many years!"

This is much more valuable than having the original MO block:D

Assuming it is a real Z, would it be worth more with a non-numbers matching 302 than the big block? Could you buy the car, sell off the big block, stick in a 302 and sell the car a profit? I'm just thinking out loud...

my Canadian car came with lots of paperwork, including a document from a "Bob Harris". Wonder if it's the same guy? I'll have to check that out.
