: Welded in frame mount!!!

Just finished screwing together my big block...now I'm ready to stick it in the '69. However, a previous owner welded in the passenger side frame mount prohibiting me from installing the righteous big block frame mounts I just purchased.

So far, my efforts have been in vain. The small block mount laughed defiantly at my feeble attempt at removal with a Dremel cutoff wheel...any other suggestions?

If you have an air compressor, use a cut-off wheel. If you don't, buy a cheap electric grinder and use the edge to cut or weaken the weld then hammer it off. Smoothen the rest with the grinder.

After you find the guy who did this and put him on display for public ridicule, you could possibly try a very strong plasma cutter (rented?) or a grinder. Unfortunately, welding does the same thing as hardening and can reach 65 on a Rockwell "D" scale, so you aren't going to chisel or cut it off with a panel cutter. Try a good local welding shop and see what they say.

A 4.5" angle grinder should do great. Should be able to pick up a cheap one for less then $20.00. Merry X-mas. pdq67
