That is was easy. Skynyrd of coarse.

But I am also partial to Molly Hatchet. They were fro the area. Used to party with the guys when they were just hitting it big. Late 79-82 period right after high school. Did things I had to lie to my kids about, but would'nt give up the memories for anything!

Great band.
Own most of their stuff, Tuesday's gone is good, and the ballad of Curtis Lowe is great by them.
Oh, and FREEBIRD is the official song of our town I think...

Best southern rock??? That’s an oxymoron isn’t? Just play with you all.
Giving the choices so far, and the time era (70’s), my vote goes for the Bay Area, southern style, CCR.
Remove the geographic barrier but keep the era; Aerosmith, Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, AC/DC, Stones, Yes, Eagles, Ramones, Cars, Foreigner, Peters Frampton, Blondie…

Got to go with some of these southern groups (my favs), John...still feel that CCR broke the gound, and are heads above the rest. IMO

Iam just going to big up a band called Black Stone Cherry their from Kentucky .Formed in 2001 , they may not be the best or quite as old as Lynyrd Skynryd but i saw them live last year and they rocked , Duff Mcagan and the Palour Mob did the support. There were alot of younger people in the crowd it was a good gig . Support the younger bands theres some gooduns out there .

CDB, Marshall Tucker, Hatchet, Blackfoot, Dickey Betts, .38 Special, Outlaws, CCR, Allman Bros, Winters Brothers (from Tenn. Dennis & Donnie - not Johnny & Edgar). all great bands..and lucky enough to see most of them... but if you ever got to see Allen Collins on lead guitar and Ronnie on vocals - Skynyrd has to win hands down

I have a friend (Mike Scrima) who bought Black Oaks mountain hideaway on Bull Shoals lake, near Oakland,he turned it into a fishing resort. The pool stilll had the band logo on the bottom when he bought the place,he had to blast it off or they wanted him to pay for it because it was a registered tradmark for the band, somewhere I have a photo of it.
