Well, finally after a full year of searching and trying to break into the 12's I did it today on my first pass of the year! Last year I only managed a 13.10 with a 2.05 60 foot time. And then my tranny went out last september. Over the winter I put a new tranny and 3000 coan converter in the car. Today I went to the track just to watch but couldn't stand just watching so I teched the car and made one run on drag radials, not my Hoosiers from last year, so I wasn't expecting much. The car hooked up good and felt strong down the whole track while shifting at 5800 rpms. I haven't really tuned it after sitting all winter, hell, I haven't even changed the oil yet. I had the car tuned for really warm weather, what do you think will change when the weather gets hotter and more humid. Today was 60 degrees and great for racing. I ended up running a 12.96 at 104.4 with 1.91 60 foot time. The best of everything on this run.Timing set at 18 degrees intial with 38 total in by 3000 rpms. Any suggestions to get to the 12.50 mark. i really need a cowl hood but I can't afford to have the car repainted. The flat hood is starving the air I would imagine.

Make the car hook and you are easly in the 12.5 range. Get that 60ft time into the 1.6-1.7 range. Most people say a tenth off the low end is worth at least 2 tenths on the et. If you knock those 60's down 2 tenths you should be right there imo. Good luck, get a pair of true slicks. And give that thing some RPM. 6200 shifts is more in the range, maybe even 6500. You want to shift 300-400 RPM over peak Horsepower.
Do the little things, they make you fast.

How about a 400 shot of nitrous oxide? :D
Seriously, have you thought about trying some 1.6 rocker arms? Or are your springs maxed already? Haev you tried carb spacers? I barrowed a
1" open spacer for awhile and it gave me a noticeable increase in mid range power, throttle response suffered a little though. I bet a victor jr might help your combo being that you have 4.11s and a fairly high stall.

Congratulations on your 12 second run!
Working that 60' time should get you down into the 12.8's IMO. You have potential for 1.7 sec 60' times with the Hoosiers IMO.
But you'll need a little more HP to get 12.5's, I would expect 12.5's needs about 106-107 MPH. Some tuning might get you there, depends on how close your tune is now.

My tune now feels like it is perfect. The guy who built my engine says my engine and his sons engine are basically the same except camshafts. He is running a roller setup and running 11.50's. I was considering a cam swap because mine is not to radical. But then I would have to go to a single plain intake too. I have forged pistons and my friends car has hyperutetic pistons and he turns his 11.50's into 10.54's with a 100 shot of nitrous. They say mine is built better for nitrous then his. I really don't know where to shift so I have been shifting at 5800 because the cam and intake are only good until 6000 rpms. I have the world sportman heads with the springs that came with them and they are good for .560 lift, they are single 1.25 springs. How close can I come to .560 lift without having trouble? Right now my cam is 498 lift. The only other thing I noticed is the secondarys when you work them by hand the fuel kinda dribbles out of the squirter. Its kinda steady but doesn't spray like the front squiters do, what do you think this could be? Thanks for all your help and hopefully I can stay in the 12's when the weather gets hot. I really need a cowl hood, I can't even run a 1/8 inch spacer only 3/8. Thanks, Erik

I think that cam is rated at 6000, if you add another 300RPM on there its 6300. IMO you are short shifting and should experiment with your shifting. Make 1 run at 5800, next at 6000, next at 6200. See where the motor wants to shift, the timeslip will tell you.
