I was told there are two different brake light switches ,,one for power disk brakes and one for non power disk. ..if it just works off the pedal, can they be interchanged?


I have a 69 with front power disk and rear drum.

I say yes. It is just a switch. Closes the circuit to make brake lights come on. Regardless if it is PDB or not.

It is the same switch, but later 70-80s ones had the cruise control circuit (2 connections). The only issue is if you added power brakes, the switch might not be long enough. GM added a little bracket on the pedal to adjust the angle of the pedal against the switch.

The plunger throws are different distances, and so is the length the plunger protrudes from the switch housing.

There are two separate switches, one for power, one for manual. You would need the power brake switch to be 100% OEM, but the manual would certainly work as both switches have ample adjustment thread on the collars.

so as long as I adjust it correctly it should work fine ..thanks all..I am going to try my old one (non PDB) with the new set up (pdb).

A note of adjusting...On all our cars I adjust so the brake light come on just before any pressure on the MC.
That way when on has a tail gater, you can wait till they are close, and glance away from the road , then gently put your foot on the brake ...they see a mass of red lights in frnt, panic...and you dont have to slow down

The big advantage is whenyou have the wife in the car .u dont get "you should warn me 1st" and if you do warn them it "no please dont"

There is a contact bracket that bolts to the brake pedal when switching from manual to power. Can be purchased but also easily fabbed.
