Kurt at CRG says there's really no way of knowing how many 396/350 (L34)
were sold out of Canada in '69. But I'd like to hear some educated guesses. They only made about 2,040 L34s total. Just on percentage, how many do you think was sold in Canada? One thing to think about: How much racing was going on in Canada in '69? Compared to here in the states? Simply put, was there as big of a demand for a high perf. cars in Canada? (NOTE: I think I read on the SuperCar site that around 75 COPOs were sold in Canada in '69)

Did you try checking with George or Frank?
http://www.chevelles.com/vvs/

If they don't know, they might be able to give an educated guess.

Unfortunately RPO's were not tracked on cars imported into Canada for production numbers before 1972, I try never to make un educated guesses as then people hold you to your mistake :)

Going back to the days I can remember one 69 396/350 Camaro and four Chevelle/ Beaumonts. By comparison my hometown had three 69 Z's, three of the Olds W30 (or 31), one Hemi Cuda and a lot of the Duster, Dart, Roadrunner cars. There was lots of street racing and local boys Sunday drag meets. I really don't think more than 10-15% of the cars would have come to Canada.

Mark: Still on the quest to find info on the car. LOL. The Hamilton area where your car came from was a hot bed of hi performance cars in that era. A lot of that can be attributed to Maurice Carter who owned City Chev. He was big in motor sports including the Trans am Sedan series and the Shell Cross Canada Rallye that he particiaped in every year. We had a local drag strip. Kohler Dragway, that a lot of people attended, and there was one up by London Ontario and a couple north of Toronto. For example. In a four block radius from my house in Hamilton there were as follows. 2 Rallye Green Z/28s, a Hugger Orange Z. A Hemi Cuda, a 67 350 horse Nova. Expand that out 10 blocks further and you had several 271 horse mustangs, and a 390 GT, along with a couple more Camaros, a 69 Z and a 67 Z. We had a high performance lot run by Maurice carter that had several Biscayne 2 dr posts with 427 bench seat 4 gears, and lots of big block chevelles and Camaros. I would say there was a healthy chunk of cars out of Canada.
