: Carpet: Loop vs Plush?
Bono454 Jul 25th, 10, 04:04 AM Heyaz. Other than loop being 'original' & old-school, is there any reason why I should not go for plush carpet?
My rig is all custom with some modern touches, so not woried about originality.
Oh, and although have searched, any quick thoughts for how to best clean/prepare the floorpan (inc very minor surface rust) before appying Dynamat appreciated :) At moment thinking wire bush, wash & POR15..
Cheers!
keypilot Jul 26th, 10, 08:51 AM what color interior are you going with? mine is black and the plush looks a little "blacker." the hook and loop looks to be not as black. thats why i went with the plush. mine is a weekend cruiser and i think the hook and loop would be more durable and easier to vacuum.

I have a drop top, and once I parked it under a pine tree. The hassle of trying to get pine needles out of the loop carpet has me considering the plush carpet. In my case, I think it would be easier to clean.
tgifford5 Jul 26th, 10, 12:44 PM I would even consider getting the super plush. I think even Stock Interiors will even send you samples. I might even still have my samples. PM me and I will check if you want to see and feel the difference. I am going with the super plush in my 69 and it will be black also.
Milt's 68 SS/RS 396 Jul 26th, 10, 02:41 PM I went with the plush & was happy with the end results.
Steiner Jul 26th, 10, 06:44 PM I used the loop and wish I had done plush. Nothing wrong with it mind you just wish I had done it. ACC will send you a sample of both for free but maybe not to Australia. Whichever you get, you'll most likely be happiest with the mass back. accmats.com
FWIW, I just scrubbed my pan with a steel brush, vacuumed and degreased it, painted it with one of those rust converters (Rustoleum or Rust Klean or something), and sprayed it with DEI's Boom Mat sound deadener spray. I just did the foil backed stuff at the firewall and beside the trans tunnel where the exhaust runs.

jr68 Jul 26th, 10, 07:22 PM I can't believe what I'm reading here
If the general wanted us to have anything other than loop in a first gen he would have put it in !
He knows what we need, that's why the first gen became the greatest collector car ever.
class67 Jul 26th, 10, 10:17 PM No question about it, plush carpet is the way to go. Loop carpet is dated and old school.
The Camaro Guy Jul 27th, 10, 04:22 AM If your not going original, go plush and go with Fat Mat and do the entire car and trunk for $159. . . .it is the same as Dynomat for results. On ebay.
Mike_M Jul 27th, 10, 07:33 AM Loop carpet is dated and old school.
Huh? So are our cars... and I imagine most of us are dated and old school ourselves... isn't that what makes it cool?:D
In all seriousness, in my opinion, if you're doing a custom, "modern" interior, plush would likely be the way to go, if you have any semblance of originality, or "era correctness", then I'd say definitely loop.
Stewie Jul 27th, 10, 08:55 AM +1 on what MIke said!
Milt's 68 SS/RS 396 Jul 27th, 10, 09:00 AM I went with original interior, but I just liked the plush better. As someone posted earlier. it looks darker than the loop. I can see if you were planning on showing your car in competition why you would go the loop route.

l:)l:) good one Mike.
Originally I was kidding about the general . . .
but what's wrong with OLD SCHOOL ! ?
Bono454 Jul 28th, 10, 06:07 AM Great. Thanks for those replies guys! I'm loads more keen on plush, but just wanted to spot-check in my mind. Going black, darker is good and don;t care about durablity.
Only going Dynamat rather than cheaper FatMat/SecondSkin/RAAMmat etc as is about the only thing available in Australia. Everything else is USD$200-250 JUST for shipping for 70-80 sqft from the States
Cheers again!
class67 Jul 28th, 10, 09:34 PM There is nothing wrong with updating a classic with modern touches to give it a cleaner look....just sayin!
