Has anyone seen the new Thunder series AVS carbs? I know these are advertised as an off-road carb, but how would it perform on a street car? I like the looks of it (silver with black accents) and the fact that it is a 650 cfm. Opinions? (play nice now http://www.camaros.net/forum/wink.gif )

I saw those carbs at the SEMA show last November. They are very simular to the Edelbrock AFB.These new carbs however use an AVS ( Air Valve Secondary )... very simular to the old Carter AVS of the 1960's to early 70's.The secondary is spring loaded and is very easily adjusted. The Performer series AFB uses a counter weighted air valve. It is very dificult to adj these in any meaningfull way. They have problems especially going up a hill or in off road type applications. The air valve must kick foward to allow extra air through them.If under a heavy load going up a steep hill gravity wants to keep them from opening. The new AVS series is a very light air valve somewhat simular to a Qjets. These carbs also use the same metering rods and jets as do the Performer carbs. All in all they look pretty good and I think they will likely go a long way to curing the somewhat inconsistant secondary operation of the Performer AFB.
I havent seen them used on an actual running engine so what I just mentioned was from meeting with them at SEMA.
EDIT : I forgot to mention that they will initially be available in 650 CFM and 800 CFM.If these go well thay " might " make a 500 CFM available sometime in the future.

Edelbrock has several versions. PN# 1825 and PN#1826 for off-road. while PN#1805 and PN# 1825 is for street.
I have the PN#1805 on back order with Summit. According to Edelbrock it won't ship until early March!
