I am looking for glass for both doors and rear quarters for a 69 Camaro coupe. It does not need to be date codes as this in not a numbers matching car. Is the galss from Classic Industries, Tamraz, etc all the same, other than price?

I've always heard you can't beat original GM. A lot of the guys have reported that aftermarket glass doesn't quite fit right but will work. I am sure others will chime in with info as to which aftermarket glass fits better.

I saw a 1969 coupe with the custom smoked glass and it looks really good. Here in California, the Highway Patrol thinks tinting is illegal but smoked glass is not so I'll be ordering up all new glass from them and the prices seem reasonable.

Also, checkout IL craig's list...you'll be surprised what you'll find, i.e.

Good idea....I will search through the local area first

Has anyone purchased the glass from Tamraz? A complete set is $375 and it is only 150 miles from me so I could save on shipping IF it fits like it should...

Frank at Prodigy Customs sold us glass for a 69 coupe. It was the tinted glass and installed with no issues. We did have to wait about 3 weeks for the passenger quarter glass though. It is real nice glass.

And those damn passenger quarters are still on BO. UGH!

I thought there were issues with the side glass not fitting perfectly. I'm aware of the backlight arch problems. If it requires an alignment choreography and still does not line up 100% then no one one has improved manufacturing. Is someone making it better since last year?

Nope, same stuff no matter where you get it. No changes from last year. The problems with the glass adjustment are directly related to the talent of the installer and expectations of the owner. We do it everyday and get it pretty good.

I wish it was more perfect, but it is acceptable. Much better then other repro parts we have to use.

Adjusting the glass is not something I find difficult; it's simple geometry and common sense. It's the inquiries from some looking for glass that will meet very particular standards as it pertains to restoration.

Well, I guess I am one of the picky one's.

I never got any of the aftermarket glass I tried on my '69 to fit or seal the way I wanted.

I was pulling my hair out for awhile trying to adjust the aftermarket glass to fit "perfect". My deffinition of perfict was that it sealed on the weatherstrip (snug with a piece of paper so there would be no wind wistle and be water tight. I put the factory glass back in and had it sealed and adjusted withing 30 minutes. That's what made me stick to my originals.

I got the polishing kit Eastwood sells and spent 2 weeks (a few hours at a time) polishing the door glass and quarters. They turned out great!

If you go with the factory green tint, look at the glass very carifully. Allot of the green tinted glass looks very blotchy - especially the rear glass.

The Prodigy Customs smoked glass looks awesome, I just could not get it to fit as well as the factory glass did.

This has just been my experience. I spent about 3 months on my glass project (including shipping pieces back and forth that I thought were bad - either tint or shape) - and ended up using my original stuff.

If you don't care about wind wistles or having the side glass water tight, you can probably get them adjusted so they look good - but getting a decent seal all the way arround was not my experience. I only achieved it with original glass.

More info for you decision making process. http://camaros.org/forum/index.php?topic=6941.0 Whenever I think about tossing the glass I've saved over the years I just can't bring myself to do it. I've sold some to those doing a resto. One to someone who went through 4 new rear lites, Pilkington included in the batch. Obviously there are variations with the cars direction, type of build and owner's requirements.

Frank is right. Its not perfect but the finished product looks good.

It took us a good day adjusting it so it was exceptable.

I may give this a try....I just went out and look at my glass and only the passenger side door glass is questionable as it has a light scratch in it. I just have gotten in this "replace it" mode during this restoration. However the door and rear quarter glass are serioulsy out of alignment, but I guess that is another thread....

Is this the polishing kit you bought? http://www.eastwood.com/glass-polishing-kit-pro.html or would this work as I have to order some stuff from Summit anyways.... http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-905030/

Rocketrod,

No, I bought the deep scratch kit, which is the same as what you posted plus some additional pads.

http://www.eastwood.com/glass-polishing-kit-for-deep-scratches.html

I also used a wool pad to polish the glass as well, worked pretty good.

It takes some time, and makes a mess, but for me it was worth it. If the scratch is real deep it will not take it all the way out, but it will soften the edge enough to make it not-as-noticable. Be patient and take your time.

I thought my glass started out pretty bad (horizontal scratches from what I can only assume was an ice scrapper) plus swirl marks from where the edge of a buffer hit it at one time. After finishing the car I took it to Carlisle and to the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals in Chicago, and scored full points for the glass in both shows. Needless to say I was happy.
