A guy that I know is selling an aluminum GM High Output 5.3 LS1 engine. It is complete and comes with wiring harness ($600).
Would this be a good engine to buy? I would probably try to convert it to carbureted because I know very little about EFI.
Good engine or would it be a waste of time???

As far as I know the 5.3 is based on the LS1. It is an iron block with aluminum heads, used in trucks.

If Its a 5.3L the LM7 has an iron block and aluminum heads
If its a 5.3L the L33 has an aluminum block version of the LM7
The LS1 is a 5.7L
5.3L 3.78 bore
5.7L 3.90 bore
$500-$800 is on target for a 5.3 regardless of alum or ironblock.... smallbore v-8.... You can get a 6.0 for a few dollars more $800-$1500 and more power......
