Hi All, been having all kinds of throuble with my Holley Electric Choke Ideling down. Just ordered a new coke today and am going to replace it. Turns out I need to drop the car off at the Tranny shop monday and wont have the new choke in. I basically disconnected power from the old choke and Zip-tied it open. This is only a temprary fix until the new part comes in. However the car starts and Idles great now!! Am I doing any damage but keeping the choke zipped open??
Thanks

No damage. But it is pretty cold in Tacoma isn't it. Makes me think you've got another problem with your carb - like a blown power valve making it run rich.
Those electric chokes do have their down-fall. They have to heat cycle every time you start the car, so long as the car sits long enough for the choke to cool down. Make sure the thermo-spring is properly engaged with the tang. When it is set up right, it should idle down 1 stop within 30 seconds or so (unless it's really cold). But it can take a minute or two before it will idle down completely. You might just need to lean the choke out a bit.

Thanks dave....How do I lean it out?? Do I turn the cap left or right??
My major concern is that when I first start it ip the RPM's jump to about 3K and stay there for about 3 minutes before it drops down.
Thanks

HI, figured out how to lean it out...Now it drops down one at about 45 seconde then all the way open about 1-2 minutes in...Cool. Now the other problem....the choke is opening correctly but the car is still running at 3K RPM while it is waiting for the choke to open. Is there anyway to drop the idle down a little while the choke is heating up. (After the choke opens all the way idle drops down no problem.) I just dont like "warming" up the car at a 3K idle..that can't be good for the motor on start up.
Thanks

there is a fast idle speed screw behind the choke coil. it controls the idle speed while the choke is engaged- try backing that off a bit when you start it cold until you get about a 1300-1500 rpm fast idle speed.

That little adjustment screw navaderrik is talking about is difficult to get at. Seems like if you flip the choke mechanism closed the screw will drop down enough so you can get a 1/4" drive socket on it. The adjustment nut is 1/4" or 3/16" I believe. It's definately not easy to adjust with the engine running.

all my Holley carbs can use a small flat blade screwdriver on the screw, and it is easily done with the engine running.
