I've been planning to treat myself to a new build this winter and am leaning towards helping the economy out and building a stroker with a roller cam .Although, I first must get this spending bill past congress (aka the wife )Anyway, I'm curious if some of you out there have any sound bytes of your roller small blocks , just so I can get a feel for what different profile rollers may sound like. It would be nice to quantify the sound with a grind spec. Thanks!

You're not going to get any significant sound difference between a roller and any other cam...maybe a huge cam with lots of lift. For a reference, I use the three sound clips on the Comp Cams website, and compare the overlap of those cams with others I consider buying.

That's what i was looking for, reference. I love that XM278 rap. Still would be nice to hear a roller next to a standard flat hydraulic with similiar lift/dur.

They will sound the same. I know the sound you are thinking about, that comes from BIG solid rollers and lots of compression. You don't hear that in a pump gas engine. Some cars with tail pipes will have a sound that is similar. I ran a solid roller that was similar to the flat tappet I am running now and they sounded exactly the same (same size engine, same exhaust, same car, same sound, same performance). Don't base your cam decision (roller or not) on sound. If you want a lumpy idle you can have that with a flat tappet cam.
