: Anyone use this GM trunk W/stripping?
68camaroz28 Aug 15th, 10, 08:33 PM Noticed a lot of folks on ebay selling GM part #3060942 as Camaro NOS trunk weatherstipping and of course many times the part# is not given. So I found out what the part # was and got one but not on ebay :noway: as many are marked up to $199. Arrived last week and it seems close and wrinkles like they did back then. :D Has anyone used and what are your opinions? Here is a picture of the GM on the left and softseal on the right as I was comparing configuration and softness. The GM piece is definitely softer and its made in Canada.

HOGDADDY Aug 15th, 10, 11:20 PM It is made for a Chevelle and not Camaro actually from what I have read. I have heard of people cutting out the plastic triangle though.
Sauron67MM Aug 16th, 10, 03:40 AM I sold one last year and still have a portion for future reference. Pics posted at CRG. It's the second run design, origionals have a string. The triangle is an integral part of the mold process and is adhered quite well. I don't know why someone would want to remove it as it provides inner support. Unless they carefully removed a portion at the channel radii to facilitate installation and retention. Use adhesive and install it properly and there should be no need. GM list-$128.75, GM Parts Direct-$75.96. Multiple applications. They poke you on handling charges though. Ask your dealer. I don't know what the new Soffseals are like. But a 4 year old one I have compressed terribly initially. Which is to be expected by the obvious supple construction difference.

The GM packaging was Cadillac (?) and dated summer of 2005. Part # is listed for a hatch back window.

Thanks! I checked with our local dealer where I have an account but it was almost $100 but as you mentioned GM Parts Direct charge you about $16 for shipping and handling, but I did purchase it from them. Took almost three weeks before it arrived. Know it sounds funny but I liked that it wrinkles or will around the corners as the real orig. did. Some of the current stuff is just too hard or too different in configuration.
Sauron67MM Aug 16th, 10, 07:21 AM Wrinkles are fine like you said. That's the way they were, who cares.
kevinkane Aug 19th, 10, 03:57 PM I bought the same GM seal from Rick's and paid a good penny for it. Fit good, looked great, wrinkled as original, but trunk closed really hard. Didnt get better over time either. I then ordered a hollow one from Metro, not original however, but close in appearance. Installed and trunk closes much better now. The best part- the seal from Metro was only $20 bucks! Hope this helps!
HOGDADDY Aug 19th, 10, 04:30 PM Like I said you need to carefully cut out the palstic triangle to get trunk close right with the G.M. one or just buy the repro as stated above. :)
kevinkane Aug 20th, 10, 08:09 AM Mike, carefully cut out the plastic triangle? Are you referring to the part that fits down into the channel on the body? Just curious. It would be nice to get the GM one I spent alot of money on to fit better if I could. Thanks!

I am not saying you are doing this by I have seen others install the strip backwards. In this manner it will not seat properly in the channel. I have a GM one with the plastic triangle on the bench. Due to it's rigidity, I can see how the plastic would hinder fitment at the radii. In which case it could be removed at those points. Because the plastic triangle lies below seating elevation, lid compression should not be hindered by leaving it intact at straight runs.

Yes I saw this on another camaro forum where the op cut out the plastic triangle and trunk closed good after.
