Title says it all. I have a 69 Coupe that needs some floor pan and frame rail work. Here is the scenario:
Someone before me replaced the quarters and complete trunk pan and then did a crappy job installing floor pans (big overlap welds that are just tacked in there, still some bad metal in the car underneath the rear seats), and also just patched up the frame rails and wheel houses. The car also has some frame connectors welded in it. My guess is I have to remove those.
I would like to do a complete one piece floor pan replacement, plus install new frame rails, the rails for the fuel tank straps, and see if the wheel houses can either be replaced or a better repair job.
The questions I have for you autobody experts out there:
1. Do I need some type of jig to mount the car on, use a rotisserie, or can I just level the car on some jack stands and have at it? I am not much of a welder yet, but I know a couple of people who are that I will probably ask for help. With the rotisserie I have read that some mount to the leaf spring mounting hole on the rear frame, how does the work if you remove the frame rail?
2. What is easier to use a jig or a rotisserie? I figure having the car on jacks means lot of overhead welding, which is not a good thing to try and do, especially for a rookie.
3. Can you fix the wheel houses without jacking up the quarters? Who ever did the quarters appeared to have done a great job so I want to mess that up.
Thanks in advance and sorry for the long post.
