DEVIL'S LAKE Sep 24th, 00, 07:33 AM they make them but i dont like the way they sound go with some super comp's
Steve R Sep 24th, 00, 02:32 PM If you are looking for ground clearance you can't beat shorty headers. I personally think Hooker Super Comp headers are a waste of money on most cars, granted you might gain a couple of horse power but someone would be better off spending the difference on tuning the car. Hedman makes a good quality part, I have used them in the past on several cars, and wouldn't hesitate using them again.

My car has power steering and A/C. Should this be a problem?
CarlC Sep 25th, 00, 12:48 PM mr69,
I don't believe that anyone makes a shortie for A/C cars. There's not a lot of room around the evaporator box.
The Hooker Super Comps fit reasonably well but may require some massaging. The 1 5/8" primary tube version is the only size that will fit. I highly recommend getting the headers uncoated, fit them to the car, then have them ceramic coated. The ceramic coating really saves the evaporator box.

palvey Sep 25th, 00, 01:06 PM I bought a set of shorties from this Street Rod shop here where I live. I have a 67 with Power steering and they bolted up and fit with no problems. They were Jet hot coated and look really good. Give these guys a call I'm sure they could ship you out a set. They call them camaro subframe headers. The shops name is A plus Rod and Custom and their phone number is 812 - 925- 6710.

mr69 Sep 25th, 00, 02:01 PM thanks for the replies. More are welcome. I ...Guess i saw the Flowmaster/Hedman shorty header setup in an article in Super Chevy, where they installed the system in a lowered '67. What appealed to me was the use of the shorty headers and a single recessed muffler, similar to a stock location, etc.....
Has anyone use any of those parts.???

CarlC Sep 25th, 00, 02:50 PM Yep, I HAD one. There was some discussion on this subject several months ago. Do a site search on "baked pizza" and you should find it.

if you're looking for ground clearence i used the doug thorley headers. they don't hang below the sub-frame on me '68 camaro.
i also have vintage air a/c and power steering and had no promlems with brackets.
POP D TOP Sep 25th, 00, 06:08 PM I saw the SUPER CHEVY article too and am currently trying to duplicate that setup. I bought the Hedmans, had them ceramic coated and am taking a moment to overcome the frustration to avoid doing something hasty and stupid. They are VERY tight on the driver's side...needed to raise the engine so headers would clear the steering box. I still needed to unbolt the steering lock linkage to get them in place...and now I'm not sure I'll be able to put the lock linkage back and make it operate. I'm less than excited about the possibility of not being able to lock the trans and steering wheel. I'll be taking a fresh/calm look at the situation tomorrow.
