The hocky strips on my car are applied differently on the doors and the front quarters. The doors are taped on and the quarters are painted on. Can anyone tell me if this is the way it came from the factory?

Tape on the doors is how it was done from the factory...

That would be as they were done from the factory. The early built cars front lower stripe extended onto the lower fender extension a little but otherwise as you describe.

You guys are right I shouldn't take it so seriously but I'm trying to get it ready for a show where judges tend to be very picky. So far the information that I've been given on this site has helped more in 3 days than in all the 3 years I've owned the car. Thanks for the great info and I'm seriously thinking of upgrading my membership!

Have you been to CRG? Abundant data and a wealth of knowledge there as well.

I know this is covered on CRG somewhere, but I can't seem to find it: were the hockey stick only for X code SS cars, or is there a chance that my pre-x code 327 could have had them?

Apologies for hijacking, but it's kind of on topic... I guess.

All SS cars had the hockey-stick stripe - doesn't matter if they were early cars without "X" codes or later cars with "X" codes. The "X" codes were only used by Fisher Body, and they weren't involved with the hockey-stick stripe; both the painted portion on the fender and the tape portion on the door were applied by Chevrolet.

:beers:

All SS cars had the hockey-stick stripe

So, I guess my question is: is the inverse of that true, i.e., could a non-SS car have the hockey stripe? If it was painted by Chevy, seems like an option someone could have added?

Pretty sure it could have been ordered for a non-SS, esp in cities with an NHL team.

Yes.

SS equipment included the optional D90 striping; it is not "the SS stripe."

D90 Sport Striping was a $25.30 option on any non-performance Camaro.

Wowzers. 25 bucks for a paint detail... What I wouldn't give for a time machine.

Izrsss, sorry for hijacking your thread, but thanks, all for the great replies.
