What is a reasonable amount of time to leave the top down before having to raise it again to avoid damaging the rear window? I've heard conflicting versions, ranging from 1 day to a couple of weeks.

Geezer Mar 5th, 01, 12:13 PM The directions that came with a convertible top I had put on a car a couple of years ago said not to leave it down over night or put it down in cold weather. The cold weather thing seemed kinda redundant… ------------------ Geezer ssdanny69 Mar 5th, 01, 12:19 PM Geezer - is yours a plastic or glass rear window? DjD Mar 5th, 01, 06:24 PM If you leave the top down for an extended time period it will tend to shrink and not want to latch when you do put it back up. I leave mine down for weeks at a time without problems but did have to leave it in the sun for a couple hours to get it to latch after leaving it down for about 2 months. If the plastic window doesn't get creased when it's down and wasn't dirty when folded you shouldn't have a problem with it... ------------------ ...Dennis '69 RS Convertible w/SS trim (http://www.camaroslimited.com/memberscars/den.htm) '96 Z28SS #1679 of 2410 (http://www.camaroslimited.com/graphics/memcars/96ss.jpg) "The Club" (http://camaroslimited.com) [This message has been edited by DjD (edited 03-05-2001).] Dougger Mar 10th, 01, 10:34 AM Does anyone have a glass back window? I've only seen the plastic ones. When I had my first Camaro convertible in 1969, I had to replace the window every two years or so because it would get too cloudy/scratched to see out of. ssdanny69 Mar 10th, 01, 04:22 PM Mine is plastic and I've not seen a glass one. Mark C Mar 10th, 01, 05:01 PM All first gen convertibles have plastic rear windows. You can get glass rear curtains but they are about 25% smaller than the plastic ones. I also leave my roof down for weeks at a time, and have never hurt the rear window. I usually put a clean beach towel on the outside of the window before folding it down to keep the plastic from rubbing against itself and getting scratched. The only really noticable scratches I have I got when a neighbors cat slid down the window one day. I've got a pair of parallel scratches from it's claws. ------------------ Mark Canning 1969 Indy Pace Car 350/300HP RPO Z11 Geezer Mar 10th, 01, 06:54 PM Plastic here, but I've seen ads for glass for 1st gen. Camaros, the windows have a horizontal split in the middle with some kind of plastic hinge. ------------------ Geezer 69 z-11 Mar 12th, 01, 06:34 PM merk...is that cat still alive ?????? ------------------ 1969 z11 pace car.396/350 hp..1997 30th convertible prickyard pace car no.1--yote1234@aol.com 69 z-11 Mar 12th, 01, 06:36 PM sorry, had a few beers -mark...is that cat still alive? |
