: Thorley Tri-y and flowmaster duals?

Since we have this 10% discount from Summit I thought it would be a good time to order.
First off, will the Thorley Tri-y header be a good choice for a 383, Vortec heads, CC XE274,Holley 700DP, Richmond 5 spd, 3.08 rear?
Secondly, is the dual DELTA FLOW 40 series system for the 69 Camaro w/ss tips a good sounding system WITHOUT the interior resonance or should I go with the transverse mounted Flow Master setup for ground clearance?
Anyone got either system on their car?
Thanks,
Guy

I just installed the 40 series delta flows on my 68 they sound awsome but there is a very small amount of resonance in the inside.but not intolerable hope this helps .jeff

Come on guys, need a little input on this one. I probalby won't race it but would still like it to perform well. I was concerned about the Tri-Y design being a little restrictive in the upper RPM range, not over 6K though, thats my limit.
Thanks,
Guy

I have Thorley tri-y's and the American Thunder system on my 383. I initially liked the 40 series delta flows, but soon grew tired of them. They were just too loud for my taste and there was some resonance. So I took them off and put on Dynomax Ultra Flo's. They fit perfectly and the sound is much better. They have a nice mellow rumble at idle and at cruising speeds you can still talk to the person next to you with the windows down. If you get on it, though, they roar!

Can't give any input on the headers, but I have Delta Flow 40s on my 68 (American Thunder kit). Since my car also has a 700R4 trans, it's perfectly quiet at cruise speeds. My car is the loudest inside the car when you are just barely moving, such as pulling into a show.... isn't that what you wanted.... I know I did!!! graemlins/thumbsup.gif ;)

Was out with 7 other cars on the weekend (mostly 50s cars) and they all fought over who was going to follow me so they could listen to my car :D

Any of you guys running X pipes?
I am finally installing mine tomorrow. My 69 is my weekend cruiser so I like it a little loud. I am curious what the exhaust will sound like with the X. My dr Gas x pipe is 3" into the X 2.5 out to flowmasters.

Can't advise on the Thorleys (Hooker Comps here). I like the sound of American Thunder system with the Delta 40's for a weekend cruiser but it might get old for every day use. Conversations with a passenger and listening to the radio are no problem. Ground clearance on the mufflers is no problem (can't say the same for the Hookers). If you go with the Flow system be sure and double check tail pipe clearance in regard to the front of rear axle tubes and leaf springs where the pipes cross over the spring. I suggest riding around awhile under different driving conditions before welding them up. I was too quick to have mine welded and have since needed to make adjustments.

My 3" in/2.5" out X pipe into 2.5" magnaflows sound nice. It's actually fairly loud at idle, reasonably quiet cruising and comes alive when I get on it.

I think the Tri-Y design would be just fine IMO. Are you going to notice a difference between a standard header and a Tri-Y? No.

I've had both the American Thunder system and the Force II system, which I am using currently. I like the Force II system, for there is no interior resonance, and I like the sound better. The downside is that it is difficult to install, but it's not impossible. You only do that part once anyway.

Well, after much deliberation, anxiety, stress, etc., I ordered my stuff from Summit WITH the 10% discount. I ordered the Thorley Tri-y Ceramic coated headers, the true dual 69 Camaro Flowmaster system complete with stainless tips. I also ordered the Dynomax Ultra Flo's to replace the 40's. I may sell the 40's later. With a few other odds and ends I ordered I saved 100 Bucks.
With this system I have the option of relocating my shocks to the inside of leafs later. I'm not nearly ready to install all this stuff yet, but I'll have it when I get ready.
Thanks for all the input guys,
Guy
