I'm looking to purchase a 327 block for my vert. Here are the #'s Block# is 3914660, which shows it to be a '68 block. What I need help with is the #'s on the back of the block as follows H1 638 underneath them is another set TN 660. Could this have been a truck application??

Thanks!
Hank

Could it be G38 and on the flange like the cast number? If so, it means July 3, 1968. The other stuff is probably cast numbers (version, etc.).

Those are foundry core and pattern identifiers - they have nothing to do with the final application. The 4660 block had applications in just about all passenger cars and trucks.

:beers:

So to identify whether it is a truck or car engine is determined by the Numbers pad? Correct??

The assembly stamp on the pad will tell you where it was assembled, date of assembly, and what the engine was intended to be installed in. There are usually separate IDs for h.p. rating, manual, automatic, AIR, etc. as well.
