Many of you have followed my problems with this 350 of mine. All appears fine at the moment. After putting a few miles on it, things seem to have settled in.

After playing around on the street a bit, I still feel it is a little down in HP, or my HP band is a bit high. Here what I have in the car this week http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif.

3400 lb. Firebird
Gm six speed
3.42 posi
standard bore 350
performer rpm intake
performer rpm cam shaft
performer 600 CFM carb
2.02 double humps in stock form.
1.6 roller rockers
stock exhaust manifolds
no cat with 3" single pipe to a flowmaster Camaro muffler
26" tall tires

What do you guys see as possible ET and HP figures. I know the exhaust is killing me and I am working to correct that. Also, it seemed to run better with my 750, so I may go back to it.

I ran a Mustang ex-trooper car this weekend and he killed me until just after half "track". Once I hit 3rd gear, my car was pulling like a freight train and it was so close, it was called a draw.

Thanks

Mark you are probably making around 300-325hp. You are right the exhaust is killlllling you. I know you like the "quiet" of the stock manifolds, but for performance sake you need some headers with a 2.5 inch dual exhaust. That will "wake" things up a bit. You should be making closer to 350hp with the correct exhaust, carb, timing, and jetting. As for those trooper 5.0's they weigh at least 500 pounds less than your car, futhermore 5.0's are very quick out of the hole with their 3.35 first gear. Also the type of person who would own an ex-trooper car would most likely have 3.73 or 4.10 gears and have preformed a number of "stock looking" engine mods. I have seen a lot of "stock looking" 5.0's run into the 12's.

Mark,
You want to play the 5.0's game, then get you a '66 Deuce. They are real light. I will guarantee you will love it. Just have to gear according to average tire size for traction. pdq67

I know that light car game well. The "bird" is a pig. I was just, that I know the trooper car, and it is stock. I have helped the owner clean it up, and the motor and drivetrain was stock "trooper" all the way.

I was going by that, "if I wanna race, I will take my truck out" feeling, but it didn't work. Still wanna run the FB, just need to get a little more "downstairs" HP out of it.

If you need more downstairs, why not pull the Chevy motor and use a REAL Pontiac motor, say a 455. That should solve the problem.
