Bought a hood off ebay and it arrived in bad shape due to a poor packaging. Before I invest more into it I want to know if it really is an original GM SS hood or not. Can you tell by these pics?

Also look at the welded on washers for the hood bumpstops. They are different on the repro hoods.

Thanks! I'll look at the bolt holes as soon as I can get a hand taking the hood off the car. I was rear ended yesterday and feel like I went a couple of rounds with Tyson.
Purecam - what gives it away, ends of the hood?
Sci-Flyer - I'll take a picture of the bumpstops. What makes them different?

Thanks again.

x2X3 - you can tell by the side of the rear of the hood - comes straight up to the end of the hood instead of the little jog that's OEM.

I know this hood is 43 years old and it looks like it has dimples. Have you got any pictures of the GM hoods. My hood also has the spot welded bumpstop washers that look alot like the picture Tim has posted. Give us some pictures of the GM hood ID marks.

Survey says.... it's not GM. Well, at least I know not to spend the time it was going to need to get the damage fixed (crushed ends, crease, multiple impact hits around the sides of the hood). I've had some bad luck with hoods. Bought this "GM" hood off ebay- arrived banged up. Bought what I think now is a GM hood off of craigslist, in the dark and eager to get a whole functional SS hood. Turned out it had more bondo on it than it did sheet metal. Live and learn. Thanks all.

Hmm, maybe different suppliers ? the GM hoods I have seen did not have those dimples. thanks, won't use that identifier anymore.

Don't buy a used hood unless you know the seller and/or the hood's history. Used hoods should be free of paint if considering a purchase. Unless you get it dirt cheap and taking a hit is not overly painful.
