: 67 RS headlights info needed
RAGMARO Oct 14th, 10, 06:27 AM Hi All, Bought a conversion kit and could really use some pictures of how all the brackets / limit switches / etc are bolted up. The kit tells me to compare to the orig --- car was not a RS and was totally apart when I got it, so thats no help! I do have the RS booklet & Assem books but the print leaves alot for old eyes! Any web sites that cover a new install / conversion? Thanks!!!
mahunt Oct 14th, 10, 06:36 AM Get the '67 AIM and refer to the Z22 section.
It's got everything you need to assemble your kit provided it replicates the factory style. If the kit DOESN't replicate the factory style, then you are kind of on your own.
I guess the hardest part of your conversion would be the fenders if they didn't come with the kit and aren't RS as you indicate. Most of the work is electrical in nature and the trickiest part (I think) is the diode just south of the ignition switch (check the AIM). There's plenty of adventure with the relays, motors and limit switches, but the diode was a little sneaky.

Welcome to the site Joe and there are no stupid questions. If we know the answers we will be happy to let you know what they are.
The RS headlights set deeper into the fender. On the RS fenders the two mounting tabs are 2 to 3 inches deeper then the standard fender. In the RS conversion kit they have the mounting tabs that need to be welded to the standard fenders.

If the fenders are 1968 non-rs fenders can the two mounting tabs be JB Welded in place on the fenders rather than mig welded? I ask this because my '68 only has gone about 600 miles since being painted.

Sense I have only worked on a 67 I'm not sure how the 68s are constructed but I think they are a lot the same. Below is a pic of a RS fender light mounting tabs. The mounting adapters I believe are welded on the the internal lip that you can see in the pic. Welding in that area should not effect your paint.
JB weld is good stuff but I wouldn't use it in that area. With the temp changes of the metal and the movement of the doors could brake it loose.

My brother is fordpowerjoke "Jeff" on this site. He started to restore the car and well im not sure, but he sold me the car and I plan on finishing it. The wife will look hot driving around in it. Joe my car is a RS and I have never installed any of these kit. I can't recommend any but you may want to do a site search and maybe you could find a thread where one of the other members have installed them.

RAGMARO Oct 25th, 10, 06:05 PM I bought the "complete" kit from D&R @ Carlisle in 4-06. I later learned that the RS needs a new ft valance, not included in the kit and unknown to me until I started to bolt the painted parts together.... I guess the good thing the paint was junk and I got to repaint! I am sure the sales guy told me the fender brackets were BOLT IN and now I am working out a way to weld them in on painted fenders ---- Anyone done that??? Oh yea, the "complete RS conversion" also did not come with tail light lens or back up lights & tail pan.
