Team Camaro,

New to this sight, and hope to pick the collective brain. Been recently laid-off and seem to have caught the Camaro Fever again. I posted this on CRG earlier and hope some one on here might have some insight.
I own an original X-55 with an 05d build date. I also have the POP.I'm trying to verify an original block but the front pad has no build code nor VIN. What is stamped on the front pad is " B U N K ".
Has anyone seen this or knows what it means? I know it was rebuilt once but I would rather had seen a clean deck than have this stamp.Bunk in my book means it might have well been stamped junk.Is this machine shop code???
can't read any partial VIN by the oil filter, the block is a 010, but that could be the worse number to have for dating originality. I have no clue where the cast date is, I see the block number and starting to see the clock( 40 yrs. of grime)should it be between those marks or further to the passenger side?? Thanks for any and all help.

Casting date should be back on the bellhousing flange. Same general area as the casting number, but probably the other side.

Partial VIN might be on the rough casting down by the oil filter, near where the bellhousing goes against the block. If it is there, it might be very difficult to see if the engine is in the car.

I have no idea what the stamping on the front pad means.

B U N K is probably some identification of a engine builder.

Agreed, probably the company that did the rebuild.

Mike "bunk" has always been something bad or un-true for as long as I have lived... An example would be "his story was bunk" or if you have any pothead friends as them about bunk-weed...

My guess is a machine shop or engine builder stamps BUNK on blocks that are bad so they don't get them mixed up with good blocks in their shop before they dispose of the bad ones...

Thanks Dennis, thats exactly what I .................did not want to hear.Thats always what it has meant to me as well. I just found the cast date; D28 9. The POP says engine build was T0512HB. Thats pretty spot on from cast to build, right? Guess too truly know is with the partial VIN. I can't see jack, but the engine is in vehicle. Matching VINs is what makes it " matching# " anyways, right?
