I've changed my mind. I'm going from a 402 to a 468. The problem is the transmission. I have a TH350 that's been upgraded but I'm afraid not enough to hold the 468.
I have a line on a TH400 that was behind a 427 truck engine but I don't know anything about it. For that matter, I don't know anything about transmissions.
Does anyone have any opinions on this trans and how it will work behind a 500 HP 468 in a 68 Camaro. I have to change the trans crossmember don't I?
Thanks

T400's are stout, it'll hold up no prob, if it's in good shape. The only real difference between a truck trans and a car trans is the calibration -- shift points. Put a shift kit in it, and either change the governer, or get a B&M kit so you can adjust it. The governer works like the mechanical advance in a distributor, and controls WOT shiftpoints. It's behind a round plate on the pass side of the trans. The truck trans will shift at real low rpm at WOT (even if you hold it in low gear).

And, yes, the T400 uses a different crossmember and a shorter driveshaft, they are readily available

I have a truck TH400 in my 67. The tranny shop that built my tranny exhcanged the tail shaft for free. The truck has a bolt on yoke, while the passenger trannys have a slip on yoke. The truck TH400 has a stronger tail shaft and will leak less in the future, but you have to run a shorter drive shaft.
