My 69 currently has a muffler shop built 2 1/2" system going to a crossflow muffler (dual in/dual out) in the stock location behind the differential. The muffler shop installed a muffler that has 2 1/2" inlets and 2" outlets mated to 2 1/2" tail pipes. Me thinks this sucks. A few questions:

1. Edelbrock offers a crossflow dual in/out muffler, their pn #5512 (all 2 1/2"). Does anyone have any experience with this muffler?

2. Would a dual exhaust system of the type with two mufflers be a better performance system than what I have but with a 2 1/2" in/out crossflow.

I guess in short what I want to know is does a good crossover muffler compare favorably with true duals. I'd like to just put a good muffler on and be done with it...but if a true dual muffler system will give appreciably more power then I'll go with that.

Thanks in advance!

I really like the Force II system from Flowmaster.

I always thought true duals were the way to go, like the American Thunder, until I started installing these on customer's cars.

Obviously, ground clearance is great, uses 2 1/2 mandrel bent tubing, H-pipe, and a nice crossflow muffler.

But one thing, the tailpipes exit straight out, after the muffler, tucking in between the quarters and the leafs, and are visible, some folks don't like the appearance of those.

This system sounds and performs great IMHO.

BTW, I'm using the Borla stainless system on my 67, I love the sound graemlins/thumbsup.gif , and I polished the mufflers and pipes just for fun, and it looks good too. I thought the price was high though.

Never had the crossflow, but as I understand it , its like two mufflers welded on end... kind of.
I did install the FlowMaster AT system on my '68, and I like the tailpipes alot better.{old system half gone and had pipes straight out the back}

Go true duals, the single (crossflow) muffler design isnt very efficient inside.
Use a 3" X-pipe, all mandrel bent system, then run 2 1/2" (good flowing)
mufflers, and 2 1/2" tail pipes. This system will make more power then your
current set up and wont choke the engine up, and will work with future mods.
