: Think they were serious?
Phx 69 camaro Nov 20th, 10, 08:28 PM We went to the goodguys show today to show my car after putting
in my new 468 this week and had a great time. The car looked and
sounded pretty good, lots of lookers. On the way out at the end 2
guys were asking about buying the car as we were rolling out behind
others. I held up 4 fingers and he said 40,000. I said yup and he said
pull over. My friend says do you have all the money and the guy said
not all of it on me. I thought is this guy for real, anyway I declined after
thinking of all the time and money put into it. Is this market picking up?
Skeeter55 Nov 21st, 10, 08:40 AM Thats always a good sign, when people ask if the car is for sale.... Makes you appreciate all that work you put in it.
Its tough when you have to make that decision and turn it down... Trust me i know and i still have my 69 and am very happy that my wife and i were able to keep it.
Congratulations on your car and don't sell just enjoy it :)
BARRY A Nov 21st, 10, 08:41 AM HI thats good money ???? but try and build another car for 40, cheaper to buy a car done real 1969 z28s are in that range
William Nov 21st, 10, 10:58 AM I've attended or monitored many collector car auctions, primarily watching 1st gen Camaros. Your car is what's hot now-well done PT or street machines. It's hard to tell from small pics but I'm betting the car is a lot stronger than that. Modified Camaros did better than restorations at Mandalay Bay.
Think of how you would feel if you saw it at Scottsdale 2011, selling for $75,000. Or more. Anyone walking around a car show with that amount of $ is probably a dealer/flipper.

x2 - it appears to be worth more.
X33D80 Nov 21st, 10, 02:52 PM Your car looks very nice and even kind of familiar.....
zdld17 Nov 21st, 10, 03:31 PM X3, Mo Money. Nice car. If you are attached to it, makes the deal harder to decide. I would be careful where and when someone stops you and wants to discuss your car and money. No late nite parking lots or such. Be careful giving out personal locations etc where you live . May wake up one morning and its gone or extorted from you.
DOUG G Nov 21st, 10, 03:50 PM Very nice Camaro :beers:
Now at $40K :noway: put a tag on it thats stupid money that you could live with  $40 ain't gonna get it....60 ? maybe :D
Phx 69 camaro Nov 21st, 10, 05:54 PM You think 40,000 dollars is a lot, but 3 years of work and a ton of
money you think twice. After walking around the show and looking
at all the prices of parts you have paid for and the hours of labor, you
are probably better off buying a finished car. I tell you though, you
start to miss the restoration work, what a great hobby! Maybe when the economy picks up start another one. Those 31,32 ford coupes would
be fun to do. I know ford, but they looked pretty cool.
1st 67 SS/RS Nov 22nd, 10, 04:28 AM Good looking ride. It is worth more then the $40K, especially when you add up the time and effort you have put into it.
OK69 Nov 22nd, 10, 05:35 AM That is a super cool car. But, talk is very cheap as far as buyers. Until they actually buy. I probably would not sell it if I built it too. But there are deals all over the place right now. You can buy a car for half of what you can build it for.
Stewie Nov 22nd, 10, 05:59 AM I had the same think happen to me. I was at the Canadian Camaro Nationals a few years ago a guy walked up and asked me if my car was for sale. I said they are "all for sale for the right price". He laughed and walked away with my phone number. Later that night a different guy called me and said he was looking for a Z and his friend told me mine might be for sale. Again I repeated my line. He said what is the price? I gave him a huge number and he said. Okay done! I was very skeptical but I said give me a day to think it over and I will call you later tomorrow. The short story was that It was sold and the fellow showed up with cash! Now that was another story.
So you never know who you are dealing with and how much they want your car.
My thoughts were I had been in the hobby for 30 years and I got all of the money I spent in those years back. Pretty good hobby. I could now start fresh and have more fun.
Kelley Nov 22nd, 10, 07:08 AM Around here, NC, nice cars are going 30 to 40. To bring more it has to be somthing special, like docs, options ect. I agree it is cheaper to buy than restore but if it is something special they may not be any to buy. If you want a real L78 or something with something special either way you are going to pay.
okiemark Nov 22nd, 10, 07:13 AM I think the market is picking up and I agree about modified/p.t. cars bringing more. looks like a long-term trend to me. I've had 3 or 4 people approach me at car shows about selling my car; even though I owned my car for about 2 years with no one asking about it- so I think that's a good sign. ALWAYS get a phone number from someone wanting to buy; even though selling is not on your mind at this time- you never know.
RSSSfanatic Nov 23rd, 10, 08:44 AM Not to hijack, but are unrestored original cars selling better than the restored cars? Any input, William?
