Melrose RS Dec 3rd, 10, 08:51 AM Very cool. Thanks for sharing!
69Tom Dec 3rd, 10, 11:35 AM I'd like to get this calendar. What's the title of it? It appears GM has several 2011 calendars for sale, none of which have the photo you show on the cover. Thx.
Steptoe Dec 3rd, 10, 11:55 AM Thats how I dissembled and reassembled our camaro on the 1syt major rebuild.
I laid on the floor uner the engine when the body was liting off....it was really amazing to find out why brake /fuel lines/ trans drip stick and such that are routed and have a small bend for no apparant reason.
Everything clears by about 1/2"
Hmm that doesnt have the front clip on..we did it with front clip on.....no front bumper or grill..radiator suppor was left on the chassis
joels Dec 3rd, 10, 12:24 PM I picked a 2011 calendar up at my GM parts counter but mine is mostly all 50's cars. Still pretty cool. They also had one that was all GM engines it was neat too.
click Dec 3rd, 10, 12:44 PM Im guessing thats the LOS plant when you see the full size caprice or biscayne in the line. Ohio didnt build the big ones. :) cool pic. JohnZ has tons of plant pics, he should make a calendar each year :D
HwyStarJoe Dec 3rd, 10, 02:00 PM Too bad there's no way to know who bought that particular Firebird... they'd know the EXACT minute their car was built by the clock in the background.
:)

JohnZ has tons of plant pics, he should make a calendar each year :D My Garnet Red 69 conv ended up with a Firebird jack sticker and a Firebird seat bottom. Maybe it was in line behind the red Firebird! ;)
elcamino Dec 3rd, 10, 02:31 PM I got one of the classic cars calendar. I wish I would have taken a few more of the one with the SS Chevelle. The Dealer is 100 miles away so not easy to go back.

larrys68 Dec 3rd, 10, 04:56 PM Lordstown ohio assembled the big chevys and the Firebirds at the same time, I know I worked there. I don;t think GM could pull off making two completely differnet cars on te the same line now.

Do a little research on the present day Camaro line in Oshawa Ontario Canada, and you might be surprised what is assembled on the same line!

Come to Fremont where they were built next to a different brand, let alone different model...hell.. they even threw in a right hand drive Pontiac to keep everyone on their toes. The original Volt.

Where would that have gone..was that about 67 or 68?

Right hand drive Pontiac Volt ended about 2003 at the Fremont, CALIF. ( NUMMI ) plant.
How many countries drive on the wrong side of the road??....thats where they went.

Steptoe Dec 4th, 10, 10:53 AM Righg hand drive countries ..those that drive on the 'right' side of the road
Off the top of my head
NZ Aussie Sth Africa, Japan...I believe Norway or Sweden swaped to left hook in the 70s.
Thet did not go to NZ or Aussie, and unlikely to go to Sth Africa due to tade embargos back the with Apartite....And when that was lifted GM Aussie suppied Holdens....althu renamed to Chev ..As in Holden Statesman renamed to a Chevy statesman and a bow tie instead of the Lion on the grill.
Something else that doesnt add up...most US car manufactures did not design cars for left hook ..the last I believe was a couple of pontiac models in 68...
The a couple yrs back Dodge, think in particular the Ram was designed for left and right hook on the assembly line.

Assuming the caption on the pic is correct, it says they built the Camaro on the same line. That rules out Lordstown, so it had to be Van Nuys. Cool pic, for sure.
69z28freak Dec 4th, 10, 07:22 PM I would love to se more pictures of Camaros being made. Those pictures are awesome.

yea,but they were all the same letter designation and underbodys right? back in the day they ran 2 completely diffrent bodystyles . la ran the f body and the b body at the same time . at tarrytwon where i worked the ran 3 diffrent cars but all were the same letter designation . the X body when i started in 80 and the B body later. assembly lime pict are rare as they had to be authorized by gm and gm didn't like to show its stuff too often. i took some pictures in the plant when i worked there and definitly risked getting fired . before i worked there and tarytown was a fisher body / chevrolet plant they ran b bodys and a truck line. http://images.google.com/images?&hl=en&safe=off&q=chevrolet+tarrytown+factory+source:life&&sa=N&start=0&ndsp=18&biw=762&bih=375
