Has anyone tried these heads out? If so can you please tell if they came with valves and springs and exc... How do you like them? They are supposedly the best head chevy ever made outflowing the vortec.... Do they use the old style intake and valve covers? Are they 585 a head of for a pair? I saw gm's add and they are used by W.J and harvick and some other guys and I realized that theres are heavily ported but it must have a good starting point right? THanks please add all your opinions and knowledge about these heads.

you mean the SB2 heads? last time i checked, WJ ran a 500 inch big block, and Harvick ran a 358 inch small block.
these heads are essentially a big block type head for the small block. everything is different, and everything is expensive. i very highly doubt you could even look at one of these heads for less than a couple grand- and that's for 1 bare, semi machined head.
if you want cheap, get vortecs. if you want cheap and be able to use old style small block stuff on it, get a set of Dart Iron eagles or step up to a cheap set of aluminum heads in the $900-$1000 range.

this the head you were talking about?

these are just the updated bowtie heads, and are sold BARE for the $299 price. neither kevin Harvick nor WJ run theses heads on their racecars, but since they are both sponsored by GM, it is possible they had a few good things to say about them... they are used in both drag and circle track cars, but not at the professional level.

Vortecs do outflow these heads (mentioned in GMPP catalog). You better spend your money elsewhere.

As already said, in stock form Vortecs do out flow them, but when ported to the max, the Vortecs are left in the dust. Either CHP or CC recently did an article on stock heads as opposed to the Vortecs and the Bowtie 2.

They flowed a medium valve -462, a Vortec and the Bowtie 2, and yes the Vortec won, hands down. But the article went on and said that the Bowtie 2 in racing form would flow a heck of alot more then the Vortecs! pdq67

i saw the ad you were talking about originally- it is on the inside cover of the May, 2002 PHR. but i can't figure out where you got that Harvick and WJ use the Bowtie 2 heads- the heads aren't even mentioned, and under the pics of the different racers, it says what heads they use in their race cars. must have been one of things where you saw the ad, and later saw the Bowtie 2 heads somewhere, and made a mental connection somehow. i have experienced that a few times, myself...
