BreathWeapon

Hey all, I am wondering about the benefit of buying an aftermarket flexplate. The item will be used on a 400 Chev SB, and I really am uncertain what would be achieved by getting an aftermarket flexplate for close to a hundred bucks. I assum they are lighter than stock, but is this all? Any help would be appreciated.

If I may ask, where did the name "breathweapon" come from? About the flexplates though, if you have a stock one, I would say go ahead and use it if it is in good shape. A lot of times the aftermarket ones are made to be stronger, thus getting an SFI approval. I wouldn't say there is a big benefit to getting one other than if you are running it behind a powerful motor.

Hello, thanks for responding. I will be using a 435 HP 400 c.i.d. csb, so I guess I would be wise to go with the tougher flexplate right? It costs 80 bucks or so, and I imagine it is worth it rather than having the stocker blow up on me at the track, heh.
BTW, "BreathWeapon" comes from Dungeons & Dragons. I dunno why I chose that name, it is a first for me. It just kinda popped into my head.

With that power I would suggest going for an aftermarket SFI approved piece from someone like Summit or TCI. Make sure to get the counterbalanced plate for the 400 unless it is internally balanced. Sounds like you are going to have a fun time with that engine under the hood!

I thought BreathWeapon was probably a D&D reference!! You're the first person I've met who's also into cars and D&D! Haven't played in over a year though. http://www.camaros.net/forum/frown.gif

Heh, I haven't played in a time either. I miss it though, and D&D, along with good ol' rock & roll is what I grew up on. I always loved playing a Human Wizard.... Grimstone was his name; still alive too, just old by now!
