I recently purchased the 'claimer' oil pan, part # 31503 (holds 5 qts, windage tray, looks stock).

This will be bolted to 400 sb I'm putting together.

Tom, tech help at Milodon, doesn't endorse a one-piece pan gasket, Fel-Pro or otherwise..."too many complaints about leaking". He, of course, says to use the Milodon gasket set (4 pc) part # 40100 (uses the thick front seal, ala late 70's) with a film of RTV on all the surfaces, and more liberal use in the corners.

Has anyone used this pan or perhaps a similar Milodon pan? If so which gasket works the best?

From he who hates oil leaks, thanks in advance!

I had that pan on my old 350 and used another on the 406 now in the car. The pan seems to work fine. No pressure problems in either slalom or road events. I would however weld in a bung for an oil temperature sensor.

The 4-piece gasket set should work fine. Milodon likely does not make their own gaskets, they just re-package another brand.

If you had the mains align bored be sure to get the big rear main seal.

I also used that pan on my 400SB. I used the Fel-Pro 4 piece gasket with a little RTV at the corners and it sealed up fine. I tried one of the one piece gaskets and could not get it to fit correctly.

Brother RockyMtnRacer...any leaks? Which gasket set did you use?

Brother Carl C...I did have the mains aligned bored. But I'm confused. Are there two sizes of 'rear' oil pan seals, thick and thin? I thought only the front had this issue.

Set me straight...thx!

There are two different rear main seals for SB400. The larger seal is required when the mains have been align bored.

Felpro #2909

"2-piece special, large O.D. seal for aligned honed 400 engines. Fits 2.8406" - 2.8415 housing diameter"

I found out the hard way about this.

Good luck.

Thanks Brother Carl...I'll look into this. By the way, nice car...I'm guessing about 2500 hours went into the beast?
