I have a standard 88 iroc convertible 5.0. I`m looking to make my first alteration and want to know what type of muffler and exhaust system you recommend. After a nice powerful sound with an increase in horses and mileage.
Thanks

I put Series 40 Flowmasters on my 69 and I'm really happy with it. They are not too loud and sound really moderately deep. In the end it really depends on the sound you are looking for.

Flowmaster makes a mean sounding, easy to install cat back kit for your car.about $300, i think.

hen I had my exhaust done, I had te installer let me start it up when he had it done as far back as the cats(required). It sounded pretty good, but not outrageous, so I told him to forget the mufflers. It was a little quieter with the rest of the pipes on, but the noise level is just right- a good sorta mild performance sound, but makes people look when I get on it. I was VERY much impressed with the power I got going to duals.

At the moment the car has a single in exhaust and two out of the one muffler. So do you guys suggest replacing this single muffler with duals.
Thanks to all who have replied. I`m supprised no-one has recommended Borla. Flowmaster 40 s sounds positive.

i just put flowmaster(american thunder) on my 69 conv.it has headers with dual exhaust and sounds un ****ing believable. a friend of mine has a formula with a 305 in it with the two into one and his sounded great with the flowmaster so i went with it. ..... you wont be sorry.
