Hi. I purchased a 350 4bolt main short block from Jasper Engines about 18 years ago to relace the 250 straight six in my 1978 Camaro. Would like to know what year block and what model the 350 came from. Had a few people try to look it up in their books with no luck. I hope someone on here can help me. Here are the numbers I have found on the block:
41GM
3970010
1 Y1YZ
C79174351
Thanks for your help.

Here's some links that might help you in your quest.
www.nastyz28.com/sbchevy/sblock.php
www.msa-1.com/custom/index.cfm?ID=34882
www.gettextbooks.com/search/?isbn=9781884089251+
Casting Date Example: E038- (E = Month, 03 = Day, 8 = Last digit of model year (1978)).
Look for it at the rear of the block; it could be on the same side as the casting number or on the passenger side just behind the distributor.
Also double check that hand stamped code at the front of the block.
It's format starts with a letter code for the assembly plant; followed by 3 or 4 numbers to indicate the assembly month and day; then a 2 or 3 digit engine suffix code and ending with the sequence number of the vehicle that the engine was installed in.
It is the engine suffix code that will tell you what your engine came out of.
I hope this helps you out.
