View Full Version : Air Induction

When I bought my 69 Z28 it had the air induction hood and air filter housing. Only a small percentage of 69 Camaros actually came with this hood so I knew it was added later. However, what I didn't know was my air cleaner assembly came off of a Chevelle. The rubber gasket on my Camaro never looked quite right so I decided to replace it. The gasket I have looks much bulkier than what I have seen and is distorted. Last Thursday I went down to a Camaro restorer place to get a new one and the guy knew right away I had a Chevelle version of the gasket. From what I can tell so far the Chevelle has a one piece flare unit which connects to the air cleaner housing while the Camaro has a two piece assembly. Is this correct? I also think the air cleaner housing (the part with the air horn and sits atop the carb) is the same for both the Camaro and Chevelle. Is this correct? Anyway my goal is to changeover to the correct Camaro parts and would prefer to use used parts.

The gasket is one piece, but the air cleaner is two piece, with a different size extenision ring depending upon application, a short ring for the Z/28, and a taller ring for the SS 350 and no ring for the big block. Also the frame mounts were different for the Z and SS to position the engine properly for the flange to seal on the hood .
