What kind of lift can stock valve springs handle. I know they suggest new springs with a cam but my heads have dont have alot of miles since a total rebuild about five, six years ago. thanks

Normally stock springs will handle about 0.480 to .500 (max) with no problem. It depends on you rocker (edit:) ratio and the spring type (rotator, non-rotator and type of spring shield).

Springs are cheap insurance. To much lift on stock springs will waste a lot of money - real fast. graemlins/clonk.gif

(edit: 'rocket'? - were the he11 was my brain?)

Stock springs sometimes can't even handle the stock camshaft! Change them, no matter what the cam is.

It's the -142 springs that are the good stock springs. NOT the stock OEM springs for a -929 cam like has been said are almost too soft for a stock cam..

They can be picked up relatively cheap if you do a search b/c this was recently asked either here or over at team Chevelle.. pdq67

thanks guys for the info. I got me all worked up and i had to go talk to the guy that worked the heads. He said that he use a spring that could handle past a .5 lift. He even call the manufautuer of the spring for me and gave me a go graemlins/thumbsup.gif . But any way he told me to stay with that spring and atleast break in the cam and if i had anyvalve flot that he would put some new ones in. Thanks
