Just wondering how many of you have changed to a K an N filter and what effect it had on your engine. I'm looking for an easy way to lean up port injection. What's your opinion on the filter?

View Full Version : K & N air filter Black69 Dec 27th, 00, 05:49 PM Just wondering how many of you have changed to a K an N filter and what effect it had on your engine. I'm looking for an easy way to lean up port injection. What's your opinion on the filter? Chris Hill Dec 27th, 00, 06:06 PM I have done a back to back test at the track between a new paper filter and a new K&N filter without picking up anything. By running without any filter at all, I picked up from .05 to .08 in the 1/4 mile over both the paper and K&N filters. ------------------ Chris Hill -79 Malibu (Soon to have a fog fed 454 Big Block) -Alston Backhalfed 76 Monza 10.98@125 w/1.48 60 ft (Motor Only) 10.06@137 w/1.40 60 ft (with nitrous, turning it off 3/4 way down the track) Should have high 9s with full nitrous run! big gear head Dec 27th, 00, 06:48 PM The only experience I've had with K&N was BAD. I built engines for a 3 car team that ran dirt tracks for five years and when they switched from paper filters to K&N they trashed 2 good engines from all the dirt the K&N let into the engine. When they switched to Amsoil filers they got better performance and cleaner air than the paper filters. No more brown stuff in the top of the carb. ------------------ '69 RS/SS396 pro street 427/4spd/9" [This message has been edited by big gear head (edited 12-27-2000).] Steve R Dec 27th, 00, 07:19 PM I put one on my Ford Probe GT. At the track it picked up about 1 1/2 mph through the traps over it previous best and about 1+ mpg. I would not hesitate to use one in any of my cars. Steve R. Racer#00 Dec 27th, 00, 11:10 PM No offense to you Big Gear Head, but I've run the same K&N on my dirt car for three years without a problem. Of course I clean it every week and re-oil it. You wouldn't believe all the dirt that comes out of this thing! I see a lot of guys at the track spending money on paper filters every week and personally I think it's a waste of money. I don't know what affect it has performance wise on my engine, but I can tell you it saves me money!! 67 Plain Jane (Restoring) 76 Trans Am (Street Stock) 74 Z-28 (Basket case!) |
