Is there a normal running clearance for pushrods & guideplates. I was always told 0.005" on each side of the pushrod or a total of 0.010" on one side. Is that right?.

I've never seen a spec for it but that sounds like it will work.
Make shure the pushrods are hardened or they will not work with guide plates. The plates will eat them up.
I guess this is only a problem on smallblocks as all bigblocks have allways used guideplates.

bigblockkid,

Right on about what David said.

Some of the new stock heads have assembly guideplates on them that aren't true guideplates because I think they use guided rocker arms at the valve tip end. They are just to line up everything until the engine is assembled. pdq67
