Hey Guys
Finally my 67 Camaro arrived at my doorstep. Picked this up in a pretty good condition for around $6800US. The car was in storrage and originally going to be rebuilt but the old owner decided to sell it on so i decided to snap it up. So the body is in good condition, minimal rust and damage. Was originally a 6 cylinder and was converted to a 454 BB which come with the car. The car is missing the front sheet metal but still came with alot of good gear. TH350, Hotckis suspension, Edelbrock Shocks, Disc Brakes just some of the new goodies that came in the car. The car arrived with the rear diff upside down :hurray: and to my delight the Freight company decided to tie the car down extremely tight to the truck.....so tight it pushed in and dented both of my doors in along the top . $120US to repair. So heres a few pics to start me off.

Yeh i agree Robert. The body is very straight for what it is. Especially considering the car has been sitting for a while in storage.

Yes i would have thought they would have tied tie downs to the chassis or somewhere under the car.....but hey easy to fix, being done as we speak :hurray:

Congrats! Looks like a great starting point for that price. The front sheet metal should be the easy part. What are your plans for this car?

Good luck on you build Justin, starting out with a straight rust free car saves a lot of time and money, I know because my 68 was in good condition when I first started the build.

Yeh there are alot of HQ and HZ parts that interchange with the camaros....but i think im going to stick to the camaro parts.
I havent heard of the 4 Wheel Drive in Auckland. But i will be looking into it to see what they have. I havent built a car personally yet, but i am 28 years old and have been very lucky with having my fathers 68 RS in the family the whole time. So im carrying in the tradition and ive bought another into the family :hurray:. Also i will be sure to contact you. Will be interested to get some photos of your first gens

Thanks Brett. My plans for the car are still a bit undecided. I guess the first thing i want to do is get it reasonably complete so i can drive it for the first time lol  but overall I would like to build an aggressive looking 67 with some of the modern technology in it to bring it into the 21st century. All of this as ALL of you guys know will take time and money. So grab some popcorn and watch this space

Managed to get a bit of cleaning up and tidying done to the boot area today. Plenty of elbow grease put into the prep and striping of the old paint...:( but finally got this all done and threw a good coat of rust killer on and then a couple of coats of primer and now the boot is ready for a top coat. What im trying to achieve is getting the body stripped back and working the inside out. basically getting things sealed up properly unfortunately this takes alot of time :boring:

So from this...........:noway:

Next plan is to do the same to the floor pans, also needing to replace the passenger toeboard and weld up a few tiny holes.

Its is by far a lot quicker overall, less work to go thru the whole lot, cut... weld, then clean up, etch and epoxy in one go rather than area by area.

When you get to the front and rear windows and the wheel wells make sure u have the trim to shape to, otherwise you will have the final paint on, go to fit these areas and the trim will be a bad fit.

Yeh i agree it is quicker overall to do it all at once but unfortunately the car is stored 2 hours away from my home so i do only have limited hours to work on the car over the weekends. To strip paint off a car and leave it with no primer on it until the following weekend would just create more work if moisture gets into the panels. So im doing it bit by bit . I also agree with the trim and the shaping process. Good call

Im beginning to shop around for a set of wheels for the car. What im looking at is a wheel similar to the Ansen Sprint Wheels. I have been looking at a 15" wheel to fill the guard and looking at an 8" width wheel on the front and a 10" width on the back. Anyone with similar rim width on there cars? clearance problems? Not wanting to do any chopping or tubbing. Any one got a car with these wheels on? if so pics please...ive chosen these wheels in hope they will give the car an aggressive look and stance. Your guys opinions?

Man that sucks.
Yrs ago when was single flatting, near 30 yrs ago, I rented a garage, 5 mins down the road and that was a real pain in the butt.
Didnt take long for me to find a new place, and paid a little more for the lock up garage....
Head down A up, $NZ18K, 8 months 11 days later, 1st road trip.
Doing that saved a huge amount of time, and money.

Any of you guys going to the Puke swap meet?
And if any where at MoT at Galaxy I was 2nd from the right on the muscle car club display.

Yeh makes it really tough  but im always looking around for a cheaper SAFE lockup garage i could rent a bit closer. Currently the car is stored at my fathers house. He owns a 68 RS so the cars currently in safe hands lol:p

Good looking wheel. I think 15x10 is going to be tough to fit under there unless you don't mind it sticking out a little on the sides. This is probably a question for the Tire & Wheel section. I think 15x8's up front will be fine if you get the right backspacing. 9's or 9.5's in the rear.

Hey guys. Thought i should update my build. Unfortunately i have had nothing but issues with decent panel beaters over the last 6 months so the build has dragged out so much more than it should have. Ive managed to replace both rear floor pans and the passenger side floor pan and toe board. Fitment seems to be good but can do with a bit more of a clean up (hence the change in panel beaters). Great news this week as i have found a decent panel beater that loves the car and cant wait to work on it. As of tomorrow it will be in his shop to have a few new pieces put on - a new rear tailpan (as the last one has been smacked), both rear lower quarter patch panels to be installed and also both front lower quarter patch panels to be done. I have ordered a firewall delete plate from Detroit Speed and the firewall is alos being smoothed out....alot of work but once this is done the car will be 100% rust free and very straight. :hurray: I also managed to pick up a tidy polshed set of wheels for $200NZ great bargain. These have helped give the car a bit of personailty. Here are some of the most recent photos i have -

I used to have a set of Cevrots yeas ago, similar to those...I hated them, came with thecar....anyway I painted the inside of the slots and the ends of the center covers the same colour as the car....
Still was not keen on the rims but they certainly then looked as they where meant to be on the car.
A freind a few weeks ago has the chevrots on his very nice orginal HZ Holden, statesaman 350 Chev and hes also done so...again really set the rims /car off as a combo.

I differ with the better to do whole car at one time.It is goog to take full concentration on each panel at a time.On the other hand when ready to block and reprime then go to entire car this will save time and primer....

I agree  we have spent a lot of time on getting panels and lines right on each panel. I don't want to complete a paint job and then notice something's not correct. Taking my time = doing it right! :)

These wheels were a bargain and they have been professionally polished. I'm not a fan of the colored centers or slots in the wheels. The fact these were highly polished was a big reason I was attracted to the wheels. I wanted some 15" wheels that had a deep dish in the rear to I've it an aggressive look when the rear is lowered. I think these will definately do the trick. Like i said a few hundred dollars......well worth there spend. There's a lot of different wheel and tyre combos out there for whatever the owners reasons. Each to there own I say

hey guys. I havent had much to update lately as the car has been in the panel beaters for the last 4 months and there has been little work done to it . So instead i have focused on building my motor. When the car came into the country it came with a 454 BB and the bottom end had been rebuilt. Unfortunately before me owning the car, it wasnt stored correctly and the engine was full of water :o. So i stripped the engine down and cleaned the block. Pistons, Rods and Crank were all in great condition so replaced rings and freeze plugs, painted the block black and started the rebuild

Hi Tim, yes I have been buying a bit locally especially the larger heavier items to save myself on freight from overseas. I have also been buying a fair amount of engine parts from summit. They have been brilliant service. Fast overseas shipping too.
