Hi everyone,
Getting frustrated trying to put on the top boot cover! Its got me beat:mad:
Broke one clip already trying to get the clip over the chrome trim.
What is the right way of putting these on? I tried to catch the clip on the topside of the trim and then push the clip down into the trim below and snapped the clip.
I've also tried to catch the clip the other way by snagging it on the bottom and then pulling towards the back of the car and trying to get it to catch on the top back edge of the molding.
No luck so far. Any suggestions? The clip has OER stamped on it.

Look at a clip, there is a tight V notch on one end and a large C shape on the other end. Fit the V notch on the trim so it is attached there and push down on the center of the clip until the C shape end snaps into place...
I know easier said than done with new clips... The C shaped end is larger and more open and will snap into place much easier with less breakage than trying to snap the smaller V shape on... Sometimes I use the palm of my hand to push on the clip and sometimes I install the clip in one spot and slide it around to it's right position as I can get better leverage that way...

Thanks. So it's not just me then! They are a real pain in the *** to put on.

Oh yes, they are a real PITA. My thumbs hurt for a day or two when I install or remove the boot. That's why I only do it twice a year. Going into winter and coming out of winter.

if you put the boot in the sun or warm it up a bit it will make it go on a little easier

I find it also helps to put my free hand under the boot and help snap the clips down. I do the interior snaps last which can be a PITA at times too.
If you find it hard to get the boot to cover the top, make sure you have the top itself folded back properly. Their is older post that has the pics and link from the owners manual showing how to tuck and fold as the top fold back.

Northern 33 pay attention to what rj68rs is saying I had a lot of trouble with mine till I found out on this site that I wasn't folding my top right and it was sticking to far up in the air which is why I had trouble putting on my boot. That maybe part of your trouble

They are almost impossible when cold. Get it warm before trying it. Use a heat lamp or set it out in the sun. When they are warm it is alot easier.

Here's the link on how to properly fold the top.

Really make a big difference in how the boot fits or doesn't.

The cold vs warm has no impact on the boot clips themselves but when the cover is soft from being warm it makes getting the clips into position easier, they will still be a pain until they get broken in some from repeated use.

I'll second that. Make sure to pull out the extra fold as the top goes down, or it'll end up sitting too high above the back chrome.
