View Full Version : Does anyone have a sound file with an X pipe exhaust?
tommyg Mar 4th, 03, 07:37 AM Before I put on my X I would like to hear if anyone has recorded this. I know I have seen this on either this post or chevytalk.com.
If anyone hase a sound file I would like to hear it.
JIM68 Mar 4th, 03, 08:33 AM ORENCH has it on his site

40Coupe Mar 4th, 03, 09:13 AM Here's a video with sound.

novaderrik Mar 4th, 03, 09:15 AM i don't have a sound file, but everyone says my Nova sounds "tough". i know it's relatively quiet at idle, but snarls with rpm's- 5000 sounds like 7000. i have a flowmaster crossflow kit with Hedman overpriced X-pipe installed.
maybe someday i will get the car back together and record it somehow. Click has heard my car running, maybe he has an opinion.
click Mar 4th, 03, 09:19 AM Nova's car sounds perfect to me, smooth at idle with a little throat, then really comes alive at higher rpm's , its awesome but also a newer engine. Not sure if that changes it alot? Derrik?
tommyg Mar 4th, 03, 10:28 AM Novaderick and 40coupe - What mufflers are you running. When you say it is quiet at idle, is it very quiet, I like some lope in my idle.
I have flowmaster 40 series mufflers
40Coupe Mar 4th, 03, 10:45 AM Warlock 3". On the run they were uncapped.
BigRed-L72 Mar 4th, 03, 02:23 PM No sound file but...we just put a Dr Gas X-pipe on the 69 camaro this past weekend.
Noticeable reduction in "POP" at idle, took the edgyness off and is alot quieter all around.
It has that distinctive "rasp" at WOT.
Looking forward to running at the Super Chevy Show this weekend at Moroso.
Maybe a new best ??!! we`ll see
supv26 Mar 4th, 03, 03:53 PM What's the best way to get a recording of your car??? I tried using my micro cassete recorder and it didn't do very well.....
JIM68 Mar 4th, 03, 04:36 PM some portable MP3 playiers have a built in microphone to record stuff, also if you can record it with a regular VHS camcorder, you could just input the audio into your computer and save it as a .wav file.
novaderrik Mar 4th, 03, 10:19 PM my engine could hardly be called "new" anymore.. 3 summers and about 20,000 miles..
the way it sounds will depend to some degree on a lot of things- heads, cam, headers, carb, etc..
i don't know what series of flowmaster muffler i have, but it is the "American Thunder" crossflow kit for a 69 Camaro, if that helps. i think i have the loud setup, to be honest. 40 series?
i do know replacing the Flowmaster H-pipe with the hedman X-pipe mellowed it down a LOT at idle, and made it snarl a lot more at higher rpm's.
383SStroker Mar 6th, 03, 06:27 AM Check out the links in my signature. I have alot of video's of my Truck with a X-pipe and Flowmasters.
KRhat Mar 6th, 03, 10:49 AM No recording, but I've got an "H" pipe on my 355. I don't know if it would sound the same as an "X" pipe. Some people ask what I did to my car "It doesn't sound the same. "Not quite as good and a little of the crispness is gone". However, I can feel a difference when I hit the gas. The engine is more responsive and got more power. It still sound very good and id didn't take to long to get used to it, and the difference is more than made up for by the power gain. Rhat

jenndon Mar 11th, 03, 08:26 AM Spintech has sound files on their web site. 2 camaros. I just put their system on my car....the x pipe sounds very different but once you get use to it, it sounds good.
It's quiet at idle but at high rpm's it screams.

sixt8rs Mar 11th, 03, 04:12 PM If you can, have your local muffler shop bend you an X-Pipe. I have full 3" exaust on my 68 with a custom bent X under the center of the car. Took the guy about 20 mins to bend it. He then used his chop saw and cut the sides of the bends open. Put them together and welded the two together. How much are these x-pipes costing? if you order one? My complete 3" system from headers back less Muffs was $200. Using deltaflow 40 series.
ORENCH Mar 12th, 03, 12:00 AM Remember the Holley part no. from Summit, pn.BIG-53620 for 2.5" and pn.BIG-53621 for 3". Ordered one 2-1/2" for my brother's Nova for around $30. Not bad.
