The other day my water pump belt gave out and my car over heated. It got to about 270 on the gauge before I noticed.
Now the belt is replaced and the car runs fine, but i'm having an oil pressure promlem.
At idle the oil pressure sits at 40-50 psi. When its in neutral and i give it some gas it quickly climbs to 60 or more. But when i'm driving and get on it the pressure drops to about 30 psi. Whats the deal? Is it time for a new motor?

Oil change? You may have fried your oil when it overheated, put some new oil and filter in it and see how it responds......KZ

Yes most likely this is the case. When oil gets too hot, it burns and become very watery. If the oil change doesn't help, you may have caused some damage to the main bearings, but this is unlikely. If I may ask, was the engine still running ok when you noticed she was overheating, or was it starting to get a bit tight?

Yes it was running fine.
I am going to try changing my oil today.
Thank you for the help, any other help would be appreciated.

I changed the oil and the problem persists. What do I do next?

Just a FYI passin it on type of thing. Check out these Motor oils and filters.

The high performance 10w-40 says it only needs to be changed once a year and filters need to be changed at 6mos. But I'm sure your not concerned with oil at the moment.
Anyhow I hate to say this but I'd probly change the oil pump? Though I wouldn't think overheating an engine would cause an oil pump to fail. I'm not sure about the bearings though they might be gone? but I'd have a hard time believeing that.
The sythn blend oils are good too, I noticed right away after changing. If you did change it with reg I would try the synthic or a blend and see if it helps smooth it out. Or change the oil pump I guess. The pump is about the only thing I can think of that would create more oil pressure. Actually replace the oil pressure sender/sensor. Maybe it got burnt?
