I need some sort of data recovery software because my USB flash drive will not open. everytime i click on it, it says "The disk in drive G is not formatted. Do you want to format it now?" I know to click NO otherwise it will erase everything. I tried using free icare data recovery software and it was able to open it and see my pictures but i could not save my pictures. It wanted a key code in order to save them. So is there any other free software that i could use that does not require a key code? what have you used this situation? thanks

The 1st thing one HAST to be aware of....USB thumb drines are disposable....have limited life and use.....Anyone who store data on one without back up has to be plain crazy

Sry but a apade is a spade
Anyone who store data on ANYTHING should have a backup.

I use thumb drives (and usb hard drives ) so can boot to XP and Lynix and Dos.....
The thumb drives do not last very long at all.

A Very old IT saying
"He who makes a backup, laughs last"

OK now to your problem...it askes if you want to format..this indicates its on it last legs.
u can try Reuva another is recovermyfiles....they may or may not recover the data...even on a deep scan......Failing that, quick format it, then run a deep scan.
No Formatting, Fdisk etc doesnt destory everything on a disk .

I downloaded Recuva and tried it, but it could not read my flash drive. So that didn't work.... I then tried ICare data recovery software and that worked but i could only see my pictures and could not save them. everytime i tried to save them it asked for a key code, and then it asked for $80 to get the key code! ??? Is there any other way to recover my data and not spend a fortune?

Dont forget to use your cheap 5 cent cd's or dvd's to burn copies of your data. if you want a bit of hands free.

www.crashplan.com is a good automated system for backing up systems.

It is able to be installed on windows as well as Linux.

I have a linux server that gets data from 10 desktops 5 laptops on a weekly monthly basis.

I used File scavenger 3.2 when my hard drive crashed. http://www.quetek.com/prod02.htm For $50 it was worth it! The have a free demo that will show you if the files are recoverable.

I use Card Data Recovery (http://www.card-data-recovery.com). it can recover formatted USB data. However, The trial version only let you see what is recoverable but you then have to pay money to get the fully-functional version for recovery.

DiskDigger will allow recovery but only a few files at a time in the un licensed verson
