lakewood 90/10 drag shocks
holley 130gph mechanical pump

DjD Apr 15th, 03, 06:10 AM What's the fastest - best times you have currently run?
jayp107 Apr 15th, 03, 06:24 AM I have never run this combo, 2 years putting it together and never ran it at the track.
40Coupe Apr 15th, 03, 06:29 AM Considering the 175 HP shot you're already there.
oger Apr 15th, 03, 06:35 AM What trans? If auto what convertor? You can have 1000 HP if it won't hook you won't get there.
89rs400 Apr 15th, 03, 06:49 AM does not say too much about weight.... if your <3200 you should be ok.. with a 3000 converter..
MarkM Apr 15th, 03, 10:05 AM What are you running as a fuel system for your nitrous?
EA73Z Apr 15th, 03, 11:05 AM What kinda head work has been done... It's my understanding Sportman II's need extensive port and bowl work to achieve enough intake/exhaust flow to run 10's, especially sprayin' the funny stuff.
IMO, if you have the right parts and tune them properly to match you should be close, You may have to much rear gear, when I sprayed 200hp(dual stage) I had to change from 4:30 to 3:73 to get in the 10's(10.39)
More spray = less gear.
Good Luck
jayp107 Apr 15th, 03, 11:55 AM I have a th350 tranny with a 3000 stall.
Fuel system for the nitrous: holley elec pump with own fuel cell for nitrous fuel. highest octane i can find and an appropriate amount of additive.
Weight is around 3200 or so. I dont know for certain. And add 180 for me and brings it to around 3400.
No port work has been done, but its easy to take them off and have some work done. I was unaware of the need for such extensive bowl and port work.
Anyone else have any ideas? Thanks for help so far. graemlins/beers.gif
jayp107 Apr 16th, 03, 08:58 AM C'mon guys, can I get there with this combo???
sik68 Apr 16th, 03, 09:14 AM I dont know anything about suspension setups on a 10 second car, but horsepower wise I would say if you aren't in the 10's its because your heads seem a lil weak for the rest of your combo. Ill run your car in desktop dyno without the nitrous
Sportsman II heads

AFR 210cc Heads (everything else identical)

So if you dont hit 10's, I would suggest port work on the sportsmans, or better flowing heads.
Good luck!

40Coupe Apr 16th, 03, 12:40 PM It has already been mentioned that traction will be your biggest limiting factor. Without excellent 60 foot times you won't get there. You'll need at a minimum 1.5x 60 foots to get into the 10's.
jayp107 Apr 16th, 03, 12:56 PM My suspension setup:
Moroso trick front springs
Lakewood 90/10 drag shocks
Stock multi-leaf springs
rear air shocks
BFG Drag radials 28*10*15
What do I need to do to hit 10's?
HotRod T-bone Apr 16th, 03, 01:40 PM If you don't hit the 10's with your current set-up, then you need to focus on traction! I have a 71 Camaro back-halved car with a 4 Link, weighing 3200 with me in it, that is powered by a 400 S.B. +.40, no NOS, rolling on 33x18.50x15 M.T. ET streets, and it runs low 10.70's in hot weather. So, IMO, if you motor and tranny combo doesn't get you in the 10's then you need to look at suspension! smile.gif
Let me know what you get worked out.
Good luck. Tony
MoeSS396 Apr 16th, 03, 03:18 PM Get a true slick, get your heads ported, and get to the track, to get to the 10's or even 11's it will take tons of practice and tons of experimenting.Eric68 has a very simalar set up, you might wanna email him direct to ask him about tuning and such.
Snatchin'gears Apr 16th, 03, 08:39 PM I don't know if anyone has said anything about lightening the car. With diferent rules and all there are even some rules saying no aluminum shocks. Sheez. 2 doors over to fiberglass tosses almost 200 pounds probably. Rims, trim, inner fender wells, power items and so on. There's even fiberglass body and front ends.
A long time ago some guys used acid dipping body parts to get the weight down. So don't feel like you'ld be doing anything extraordinary coming up with ideas to get the weight down.
Good luck doing it to it.
Everett#2390 Apr 17th, 03, 01:35 AM I wouldn't be so bug-eyed, as in the pics of Rat Fink, about getting into the 10's. There are rules of safety to do first. Roll bar & harness & and most of all -- brakes.
It reads like you've got it figured out, and I agree, I'd add a set of Caltracs, or at least a set of slapper bars. While your there, driveshaft loop -- maybe for both ends. Tie the frames together.
But as 40Coupe said, you need a 1.5X 60' ft time to start. Good luck........
Lonnie67 Apr 18th, 03, 07:02 AM My combo is mild compared to yours, I'd expect easy 10 with a 175 shot.
Those tires might not cut it though. If you hit 125mph, which it should easily, a 10 can be had with a low 1.7 60ft.
Come on guys he has a 175 SHOT OF NITROUS! it shouldn't be that difficult to hit a 10.

I guess we are just super lucky guys to have cars that run deep into the 11's N/A. ;) Heck if I put a 150 HP shot to my ride it would be low 10's hands down. It's commonplace to drop a second off the 1/4 mile ET with a 150 HP shot in a typical 11 or 12 second ride. I guess there are naysayers in every bunch.
